This state would consist of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
I feel like this really comes down between Calgary and Edmonton. If Western Canada became independent, it would probably be mostly under the Conservative Prairie Provinces, and especially Alberta.
vancouver is too damn close to the american border!
obviously you can still have a national capital close to the border but imagine if those glubby little americans tried to take over you, sure they can nuke you but even if they dont, they can easily cross over with that juicy harbour and road
in comparison, it'd take a bit more time to reach edmonton or calgary, more time for the capital to prepare! i picked edmonton since its further from the border
