First time:
Started as: Nigeria
Doctrines: Jungle Specialization
Years it took: 29
Notes: Japan had taken South Africa, so it took a bit of time as the North Sea Empire and I had to take out Japan, which was painful and slow. I also didn't know as many meta strategies as I do now.
Second Time:
Started as: Democratic Republic of Congo
Doctrines: Massed attack, switched over to Jungle Specialization.
Years it took: 28
Notes: I discovered the meta doctrine of going into massed attack doctrine, maxing it out, and switching to specialization so I could have lots of manpower for a lower price per unit while also having experienced troops. (It's especially useful early game since Congo starts with volunteer conscription, and it takes 200 political points to change that) Luckily, not many foreign powers had taken a chunk out of Africa.
Except for the Empire of Brazil that had taken Sierra Leone for its titanium. Luckily, I had 22 million troops, and the Brazil player had left, so I was able to take him over easily and gained territory and money.
After this, I declared war on the USA, taking him over was pretty hard and I lost lots of manpower and got high war exhaustion, but I prevailed. Sadly, as soon as I was about to force-peace and take all of his territory, the game disconnected me. And since I was the only person in the server at this point, the server shut down. So I was unable to rejoin :(
Anybody got any thoughts or suggestions? I'm relatively new to this game so I still have a lot to learn.
