Background[]
Baja California occupies the area of the same name, comprising two states - Baja California, with the capital being Mexicali, and Baja California Sur, with the capital being La Paz.
The peninsula of Baja California was inhabited 10,000 years ago, Before 
Spain arrived the peninsula was inhabited by three major ethnic groups: the Cochimí in the north, the Guaycura in the central section and the Pericú on the southern cape. In 1695 the peninsula had many missionaries, in 1821, after added on June 21, 2022. 
Mexico became independent, and established Baja California as a federal territory. The Mexican-War (1846-1848) had major repercussions in Baja California.
In 1853, American William Walker invaded the peninsula with 50 mercenaries, intent on annexing the land Although he had no support from the American government, Walker arrested the governor, took possession of the public buildings and raised the flag of a new republic. He declared himself president, Walker was forced to retreat.
As the revolution drew to a close in 1921, Baja California aligned itself with the new president. On December 31, 1952, Baja California officially became Mexico’s 29th state, and in 1953 the state’s constitution was adopted.
