— Description of forming Belgian Empire |
The Belgian Empire is a trans-continental formable that borders the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, and France in Europe. It borders the Rep. of Congo, Angola, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan and the Central African Republic in Africa.
Background[]
The Belgian Colonial Empire consisted of three African colonies possessed by Belgium between 1901 and 1962. This empire was unlike those of the major European imperial powers, since 98 percent of it was just one colony (about 76 times larger than Belgium)—the Belgian Congo—and that had originated as the private property of the country's king, King Leopold II, rather than being gained through the political action of the Belgian state. It was, however, the third largest colonial territory in Africa; in contrast, the possessions of Belgium's more powerful neighbor, Germany, came sixth in size.
Leopold II became known as the "Butcher of the Congo," where millions of Africans died as a result of the brutality of his rule. Conditions in the colonies did improve after the Belgian government assumed direct control after 1908. However, when independence came, the territories were ill-prepared for self-governance since little effort had been made to train and equip an African leadership. Belgians, including their government, adopted an ambivalent, even indifferent attitude towards their empire. Political instability created by tension between clan and central leadership in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo, and tribal rivalry leading to genocide in Rwanda are at least in part the result of a colonial legacy that took far more from Africa than it gave. Autocratic rule did not need to find ways of negotiating how different factions could cooperate within a sustainable, participatory system of governance or access a fair share of resources.
Modifier[]
Forming the Belgian Empire gives a indefinite modifier called "Labour and Progress" Granting:
- Resource Output:+15%
- Factory Output:+10%
Strategy[]
After picking Belgium, immediately justify on the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Your first goal will be to form Benelux. After justifying, build atleast 3 Electronic Factories and used the Massed Attack Doctrine for more manpower.
Once the factories are done buy at least 6.5 of Copper and 6.5 of gold , then sell the Electronics that you now produce to earn profit. Invade the Netherlands with about 70k Infantry and go after Luxembourg next to form Benelux. Make sure to use AI Luring to conserve troops.
Once you have formed you may now start justifying on the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. Your next requirement would be Tanks, so either make a Steel Factory and a Motor Factory or just buy Motor Parts and Steel.
Make 2.2k tanks afterwards and buy Oil if required, then sail your Tanks toward the coast of the Congo. Make sure to also use A.I Luring.
Taking the Congo[]
After the Congolese troops have died, try to avoid attrition by capturing one city by one city to get to the capital and capture it. Split your tanks into reasonable amounts after you've captured Kinshasa. Probably justify on Burundi next, as it is your last target.
After you've fully annexed the Congo, head toward the 2 small nations Burundi and Rwanda. Now, taking them should be very easy.
Annex both, and you may be able to form the Belgian Empire.
Threats[]
Belgium is a requirement for the following:
- Dutch Empire
- Frankish Empire
- Roman Empire
- European Union
- Benelux
- Holy Roman Empire
- Germany will almost always invade you at some point, so always ally France and/or the United Kingdom.
- Rwanda and Burundi are needed for the East African Federation.
- The Democratic Republic of the Congo is strong when not AI.
- All of your African lands may be eaten by South Africa or Nigeria wanting to unify the continent.
- Netherlands can possibly be a threat to you, though its uncommon for them to be player, they may annex you before you join or while you are ingame. Luxembourg rarely is a player and is almost never a threat to you if you are player but they also may have already formed Benelux.
- United Kingdom or France often invades the Benelux region but you may be able to convince them not to invade you.
Egypt isn't a threat to you specifically in most cases but they may close the Suez Canal, however due to attrition its safer to go through the front unless your ally colonized behind it.
