Units are a collection of military assets compartmentalized into three branches: the army (also known as ground), navy, and the air force. They are the backbone of the armed forces, as they are geared towards engaging in combat during war, such as capturing cities and attacking enemy forces, or safeguarding national defense from potential threats.
All units have their respective statistics, such as recruitment costs (manpower, money, and resources), upkeep (money and resources), attack, defense, and mobility. They also have their own responsibilities, purposes, strengths, and weaknesses. For instance, the anti aircraft is tasked with shooting down enemy aircraft, the submarine is efficient in sinking enemy transport boats, infantry and tanks are the main units for capturing cities, etc.
Units can be adjusted and manipulated by using several modifiers, such as doctrines, operations, political leaders, military leaders, traits, technologies, entrenchment, military experience, readiness, conscription laws, and more. Additionally, they can also be customized and decorated by using skins; however, skins are purely cosmetic and do not affect units' base financial requirements or performances.
