Square Cities, also known as major cities, are cities that represent a shape as a square, indicating that it surpasses the threshold of 1,000,000 population. They generate a higher tax and resource income, as opposed to the spherical cities.
Square Cities are known for their ability to produce tanks, as cities that are below one million population cannot build tanks. Consequentially, smaller countries, such as Lithuania or
Croatia, are unable to manufacture tanks during the initial phases of the game until they annex a square city.
Spherical cities with a moderate population can transform into a square city should their population grow over time. This is influenced by many factors, such as development, certain policies, stability, unrest status, etc. Some cities could grow into a square city relatively fast such as N'Djamena in Chad, the port city of Odessa and Donetsk City in
Ukraine, and Mérida in
Mexico.
