Colombia is a Tier V nation located in South America with partial territory in North America
, due to
San Andres. It's one of the strongest nations in South America, however, it is rarely seen being played by a player, due to its limited amounts of formables, aswell as its proximity to
Brazil.
Background[]
Approximately more than 10 thousand to 15 thousand years ago the first human beings arrived in Colombian territory, the first vestiges of civilization in the territory date back to 10 500 BC. C. in the Abra, located in the Bogotá savanna. In the 15th century there were three great families that populated Colombia. The Caribbean culture was located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, the Arawak on the Caquetá, Amazon and Putumayo rivers, and the Muiscas on the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the cold climate of the mountains in the center of the country. The latter was the one that had more settlers and an important development in agriculture, the use of the calendar, hieroglyphs and religious rituals. The first expedition that set sail for what is now Colombia was undertaken in 1499 by Alonso de Ojeda, reaching what was Cabo de la Vela in the current department of La Guajira, with the collision of these lands the Spanish founded settlements on the coasts and then they expanded towards the center of the territory, conquering all of Colombia until they became part of the viceroyalty of New Granada. After the emergence of the Bourbon Reforms during the eighteenth century, which consisted of a kind of increase in taxes within the Spanish colonies, in Colombia this generated discontent among the inhabitants, causing many to rebel against Spain, giving rise to the first rebellions such as the revolt of the comuneros, which ended in a treaty (that was later rejected) between the Spanish Kingdom and the comuneros. When Spain was invaded by Napoleon, this caused that in 1810 the viceroyalty of Nueva Granada was divided into four territories, the United Provinces of Nueva Granada (Federalist part of Colombia), The Free and Independent State of Cundinamarca (Centralist part of Colombia) Venezuela and the states loyal to the Spanish crown within the united provinces of the new Granada there was a confrontation between the inhabitants of the country in case the state were centralist or federal, leading to a civil war that in the end, Spain would take advantage of to reconquer the territory. With the arrival of Simón Bolívar, the definitive independence of Colombia was achieved in 1819, with the Boyaca battle, founding the great Colombia with Bogotá as its capital and the central and administrative area of the entire country. after the collapse of the great Colombia in 1832 Venezuela and Ecuador separated from the union causing Colombia to be called the Republic of New Granada, during this period of time at the end of the 19th century a conflict broke out called the war of a thousand days (which actually lasted 1130 days), a Civil war between liberals against the conservative government of Colombia, The war lasted from 1899 to 1902 and after almost the beginning of the 20th century with the intervention of the United States in the Panama Canal, the territory passed to the influence of the United States, separating itself from Colombia, over the years, there was a massive protest in Bogota due to the assassination of Jorge Eliécer Gaitán (a very important communist politician) by Juan Roa Sierra, probably done by the United States government or the conservative party. After a long period known as the violence, there was a coup d'état, perpetrated by Gustavo Rojas Pinilla, which later will lead to the creation of The National Front, were both parties (Liberal and Conservative) will alternate governments. Colombia had border conflicts with all its neighbors, ending its current borders. With the passage of the 20th century, Colombia was in a period of bipartisan violence, leaving great violent moments such as the Bogotazo of 1947, the coup d'état of rojas pinilla in 1953, the Colombian guerrillas in the 60s, drug trafficking in the 70s and 80, among other problems ... Today Colombia is a country that has a long struggle against inequality and corruption. Few zones are peaceful, like few cities with minor population than 50,000. |

Geography[]
Terrain[]
Colombia's terrain is mostly Semi-Mountainous with some Hilly terrain in the south, and Mountainous terrain in the central and west of the country.
Biome[]
Colombia is almost entirely covered with Jungle, except for its northern tip, which is the normal biome.
Strategy[]
Defending Against
Brazil[]
Like always, Brazil is the biggest competition and threat to all other South American nations. However, most
Brazil players annex
Uruguay before any other nation so they can form the
Empire of Brazil. This will give you time to build up your economy and military, which will be important if you go into conflict with
Brazil.
If you are the only other South American nation then they will most likely attack you, since you are their main competition and threat on the continent. Colombia will not be able to take on Brazil's extreme maximum manpower, resources (unless you are trading with other nations, which can be helpful for your economy and military) and economy, unless however, you are a legend at strategy, or the
Brazil player is a newbie. Tanks would be your best option when invading
Brazil (Colombia has good oil outputs); Infantry and artillery would be best for defense, just make sure that when making a big armed force you do not go into debt, if you do, you will be in deep trouble. Also, technology research for infantry, tanks and support would help a lot.
Another way to deal with Brazil is taking advantage of your biome and terrain, you can gain a huge advantage entrenching troops in the southern cities (Jungle), or pretty much anywhere as long as
Brazil doesn't prepare a navy. The base Brazilian economy cannot afford a large navy, however, which is good news for you. Due to the lack of cities in the south of Colombia,
Brazil will take heavy attrition there, and their units will be slowed down, giving you time to prepare. Artillery is very useful in the south. Mitu, for example, is a good capital because it is far from the coast, avoiding the threat of aircraft carriers or any naval units. Adding on to that, there is a very high entrenchment bonus. As preparation, you can also fund a large army by selling
Electronics or expanding to Africa/forming
Gran Colombia at the beginning of the game. After
Brazil runs out of manpower, you can then use the troops you entrenched in the south to invade
Brazil.
You should aim for Communism/Limited or Fascism to prepare as well. You can also try to ally world powers (USA, India, etc.) and get them to intervene, but it's not very common. If Brazil sends troop transports towards your coast instead of through the south, choose 'Submarine Warfare' in Military Doctrines and build 3-5 submarines. If you have enough money, you might as well build 100k+ troops in Leticia, Mitú, and Inírida (the cities farthest south) and possibly aircraft or tanks. With all this, you can either stall
Brazil until you build up your economy and military and then invade them or wait for allies to arrive.
It is possible that Brazil would be willing to have a military alliance with you, then you could put aside your worries, this is not uncommon. However, if they are not willing, it would be great to have allies that would be willing to help you if
Brazil attacks.
Defending Against Other Nations[]
If Venezuela is a player, he will most likely try attacking you over any other nation, since you are right beside him. It is unlikely; however, he will have much chance of defeating you if you play your cards right. After all, you are stronger, and economically more in tuned for fighting, and besides, you need Venezuela for the
Gran Colombia formable. Use the same military build as stated in the defending against
Brazil.
Peru is also a threat, especially to the formation of
Gran Colombia, because the
Peru player will most likely want
Ecuador for the
Inca Empire formable. But it is possible that the
Peru player will go for
Bolivia first, because of the
Peru-Bolivian Confederation formable. Either way,
Peru is competition, so be on your guard.
It is unlikely you will have problems with Argentina, since your countries are two nations apart. But it wouldn't hurt to have an alliance with
Argentina, after all, they could be a strong ally against
Brazil.
If the United States, or
Mexico attacks you, you should focus on naval power, since the only way they can get to you from land is by
Panama, which is so narrow you can create a blockade of infantry, tanks, and artillery. However, it is unlikely you will be able to handle the
United States' economic and military power.
Mexico would be very difficult, but it would be like
Brazil, except for the use of naval power (which can be a plus). Either of these countries attacking you would be uncommon, so do not worry too much about them.
Your greateat defensive strength is the entrenchment boost having mountainous jungle and even semi-mountainous jungle have. (Jungle gives a 2x boost, mountainous and semi-mountainous give 4x and 2.75x respectively.) This strength is amplified further with forts and a good general. And if you form {{Flag|Name= Gran Colombia}, your neighbors, with solid terrain and biomes as well will just increase your defensive power. Beware of aircraft, and use anti aircraft to keep the skies clear.
Forming
Gran Colombia[]
You should probably invade Panama first, since it would be the easiest to take, and taking it is unlikely to provoke anybody. Then
Venezuela would be ideal, because it would give you more economic and military power and taking it would most likely not provoke anything since no one besides
Spain needs it for a formable (an exception for people trying to form the
United States of South America) but they would have to deal with other nations before that.
Brazil would most likely be invading
Uruguay by this time.
Finally, if you take Ecuador, you will be able to form at last, and if
Peru wants to attack you because of this, you should be able to stand against them, unless
Peru gets too powerful by forming the
Peru-Bolivian Confederation, which, if you can tell they want to invade you, is a good reason to invade first, catch them by surprise.
