The Czech Republic is a Tier III nation in Central Europe . It can be difficult to play as, because it is usually invaded by
Germany at the beginning of the game. It borders
Poland,
Slovakia,
Austria and the ultimate threat, Germany.
Background[]
In the early history of the land that is today the Czech Republic, various tribes settled the land starting with the Celtics, then the Germanic tribes, and later the Slavic peoples. In the 9th century one of the first states was made: the Duchy of Bohemia. Bohemia was, for a long time, a member of the Holy Roman Empire. In 12th century the Golden Bull of Sicily made Bohemia a kingdom with hereditary title. Bohemia, when it first started, was led by the Premyslid dynasty, then the House of Luxembourg, and then the Jagiellonian dynasty. One of if not the most famous king was King Charles IV, who became King of Bohemia and later the Holy Roman Emperor. He was famous for building cities. He also improved the country from shambles into a built-up country.
The Holy Roman Empire would rule over the land for many years until the 1800s when the Austrians and the Habsburg Empire would take control.
After WWI, the country of Czechoslovakia was formed from the ethnic-majority lands of the Czechs and Slovaks. These lands granted to Czechoslovakia were formerly part of the
Austro-Hungarian Empire. Unfortunately, as the German regime changed from a republic to an ultranationalist, totalitarian dictatorship, fears increased that the Nazis would invade. In 1938, the
United Kingdom,
France,
Italy, and
Germany signed the Munich Agreement, which granted the Sudetenland, a part of Czechoslovakia with numerous Germans, to Nazi Germany. This was controversial in Europe at the time as Czechoslovakia had no choice to resist. The Czech population in the Sudetenland were forcibly expelled. A few months later, the First Vienna Award occurred, granting border regions of
Slovakia to
Hungary.
Poland was also granted a contested border region, Zaolzie, around the same time. In mid-March 1939, the Nazis, along with the Hungarians, invaded the remaining parts of the country. The Nazis annexed most of the modern-day territory of the Czech Republic, and proclaimed the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. They also established the Slovak State as a satellite state, while Hungary invaded
Carpatho Ukraine. This was the end of the First and Second Czechoslovak Republics, and the last time Czechoslovaks would see democracy until 1990.
Many Jewish and other minorities suffered greatly during this period. In 1943, Reinhard Heydrich, the Reich-Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, was assassinated. Then in 1945 there was an uprising in Prague that kept the city free from Nazi persecution. After the war, the president Edvard Beneš returned from exile. In the 1946 elections, the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia took over, where they would stay in power for 34 years. 2 years later, they staged a coup d'etat and established the Fourth Czechoslovak Republic, or the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. In 1968, the people of Czechoslovakia attempted to rise up against the socialist government in favor of democracy in the Prague Spring, but the Eastern Bloc nations, Hungary, Bulgaria, the
Soviet Union and Poland, invaded Czechoslovakia and suppressed attempts at reform in the Communist Party. In 1989, days after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Czechoslovaks took to the streets and rose up against the communist regime. This led to the fall of the regime and a democratic Czechoslovak republic. In January 1993, the Czechs and the Slovaks decided they would each rather have their own country and they were peacefully split up into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, dissolving Czechoslovakia . In 1999, the Czech Republic joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and 5 years later in 2004, the Czech Republic became a member of the
European Union (EU).

Geography[]
Terrain[]
The Czech Republic is landlocked and located in Central Europe. It is entirely flat, except for it's borders with Poland, Germany, and Austria, which are hilly.
Biome[]
During December to January, the Czech Republic’s biome changes to Severe Winter. Before and after these months, it remains to have no biomes.
Borders[]
The Czech Republic borders Slovakia,
Poland,
Austria, and
Germany.
Strategy[]
Since the Czech Republic is weak and extremely vulnerable early on, you must always focus on always taking the initiative and planning ahead. Otherwise, one misstep or mistake will spell your doom.
Important Notes[]
- Turn off reinforcements for all divisions early game or else you won't have enough manpower to make new divisions.
- Don't forget to buy the resources required to upkeep factories.
Starting Moves[]

How your ground doctrine tree should look
As the Czech Republic, you must act rapidly. If you cannot do these steps with at an appropriate speed then it is certain that you will be unable to put up resistance in a potential invasion. This strategy is not designed to handle being attacked before completing all starting moves.
- First, justify war on
Luxembourg and
Slovenia immediately.
- Next, construct a steel manufactory, motor factory, and aircraft manufactory.
- Construct 1 factory in Prague and the rest of the factories in separate cities so they finish construction as soon as possible.
- While you are waiting, go to your doctrines and spec into static lines and then greater support. When possible, recruit a military leader with good defense modifiers. Also recruit political leaders that will boost your army if possible.
- Do not spec into more than those two doctrines or you will be unable to recruit a leader in due time.
- Once your steel and motor factories are finished construction, build 2 tanks and then queue a fortification in your capital, Prague.
- After your justifications on
Luxembourg and
Slovenia are finished, invade them both with 1 tank division respectively.
- You must send your tanks across Germany and Austria to invade them. The attrition is minimal, so do not worry about it.
- Also be a little careful with invading Luxembourg as if you invade them wrong then your tanks will die from attrition debuffs.
- After you have annexed and seized the treasuries of both nations, build 1 attacker and artillery, then build as many tanks possible.
- Don't forget to return your tanks to your capital, Prague!

Germany[]
Germany will normally be very keen on rushing you, as even though the Czech Republic is not required for any German formables (excluding the European Union), Germany players are known for being often expansionist, and the fact that they want to get some money from conquering you. As a result, war with Germany is extremely common.
If Germany has not attacked you, although tempting, do not attack
Germany unless
Germany does not have a proper standing army or their army is preoccupied elsewhere.
Instead, continue to build up your economy by invading your neighbors, building electronic, fertilizer, and consumer goods factories, then selling goods to AI nations.
If Germany attacks you, wait for German attacks and tear up their offensives with artillery and attackers. Keep your troops in Prague unless you are in danger of being forced into a peace deal. If they have destroyed most of their army, capture some of their cities with your tanks. If they rebuild their army, retreat back into Prague. Do not engage their troops or else your capital will be in danger. Repeat this until they cannot launch anymore counter offensives or until another nation intervenes on your side.
If you have not succumbed to German attacks then congratulations on having endured the challenge of playing this nation!
Czechoslovakia[]
Forming Czechoslovakia first is a good choice as Slovakia is rarely a player, and not many nations want nor need it. Make electronic factories, like you should do as any nation, and then make a hefty military. Build one infantry unit, combine it with your home guard, and then train them to mountain specialisation. You'll have 30k troops which is perfectly enough for AI luring Slovakia. Mountain specialization is recommended, since Slovakia's mountainous terrain can be slow to work through. Annex them, and then try to make other formables if you like.
Bohemia[]
The Kingdom of Bohemia is the Czech Republic's 3rd hardest formable, and a fine choice if you like expanding towards coastal areas. Make electronic factories, build one artillery, and 30k infantry. Combine your home guard with the newly trained units into 1 unit. During this process, justify war on Austria and
Slovenia.
Declare war on Austria and Slovenia. Use your artillery to bombard Austria's home guard to around 5k and use AI luring to finish them off. Your 30k infantry should be able to kill the Austrian home guard without taking much casualties. After you conquer Austria use the same tactics for Slovenia. Eliminate Slovenia’s home guard using artillery and AI luring, conquer the rest of Slovenia and form the Kingdom of Bohemia. Afterwards, if you want, expand into the Balkans or even Africa
!
Threats[]
The Czech Republic has several threats among Europe:
Poland or
Slovakia trying to form
Zapadoslavia.
- Poland willing to form
Intermarium.
Germany expanding.
Austria forming the
Austrian Empire, the
Austro-Hungarian Empire, or the
Holy Roman Empire.
Hungary wanting to form the
Austro-Hungarian Empire.
- Any nation willing to form the
European Union
Trivia[]
- Despite Czechia being Czech Republic’s actual name, the game still refers Czechia as the Czech Republic.
