The Duchy of Milan (Italian: Ducato di Milano; Lombard: Ducaa de Milan) was a state in Northern Italy, created in 1395 by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, then the lord of Milan, and a member of the important Visconti family, which had been ruling the city since 1277.
History[]
The Duchy of Milan was established in 1395 when Gian Galeazzo Visconti acquired the title from the Holy Roman Emperor. The Visconti family ruled Milan for over 140 years until the mid-15th century when the Sforza dynasty took control. Francesco Sforza married Visconti's daughter and ruled Milan from 1447 to 1535, presiding over a flourishing of art and culture. In 1515, Holy Roman Emperor Charles V conquered Milan, marking the start of centuries of Spanish rule punctuated by French, Austrian and Venetian interference. Between 1630 to 1713, Milan witnessed a struggle for power between Spain, Austria, France and Sardinia. During this time, Milan changed hands several times, with Spain and Austria alternating between occupation and control. In 1796, Napoleon Bonaparte defeated the Austrians at Lodi, capturing Milan and surrounding territories. He established the Cisalpine Republic until 1805. When Napoleon fell, the Congress of Vienna assigned Lombardy, including Milan, to the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia. Austria controlled Lombardy until 1859. In 1859, Lombardy and Piedmontwere ceded to the Kingdom of Sardinia under the Second Italian War of Independence. This led to the unification of Italy in 1861, and the end of foreign rule over Milan after centuries of occupation and power struggles. From the 15th century to the 19th century, Milan saw a succession of rulers including the Visconti, Sforza, Spanish, Austrian and French. But overall, Spanish and Austrian controlwas intermittent, as Milan frequently witnessed conflicts, interference and changes in governance amid the shifting alliances of European politics. Yet, Milan was ultimately united with the rest of Italy in the 19th century after nationalist uprisings, leading to the dissolution of the Duchy of Milan after centuries of foreign occupation. |
Economy & Manpower[]
At base, the Duchy of Milan has a manpower cap of 89,819. Without any buildings, it has a manpower gain of around 650 and and a money gain of around 375.000$
Geography[]
Terrain[]
Milan is typically flat or Hilly in its southern lands, with more Mountainous lands up north.
Biome[]
During the winter, Milan is affected by Mild Winter but otherwise has no biome.
Strategy[]
Starting off[]
Before beginning, have all the states released as Italy. After so, playing as Lombardy, make one of each factory: electronic, steel, and motor. Justify on the surrounding Italian releasables picking off with Piedmont and Venetia first.
Expansion[]
By the time the justifications finishes, start building tanks (make sure to buy oil) and declare war on both countries. Continue justifying and attacking on the Italian releasables so to get closer to forming. Build recruitment centers to boost manpower gain as you continue expanding.
Invading Switzerland[]
It will take very long to fully collapse Switzerland just using tanks so it would be recommended to use infantry in this invasion. Build artillery alongside the Swiss border and declare war. Bait the AI to recapturing its city in the south with its home guard ensuring it is within range of artillery fire. This will weaken its home guard so it will be easier to invade. Spare what manpower you have to train infantry to capture their cities and take out Switzerland. Afterwards, you will have gotten the last cities need to form the Duchy of Milan.
Threats[]
- Any other North Italian releasable attempting to form
Padania.
Italy retaking its lands.
France wishing to form the
Napoleonic Empire or
Frankish Empire or simply expanding.
Germany also has the same threat of attempting to form
Frankish Empire.
- Any other country in the EU trying to form the
European Union.
Austria trying to establish a foothold within the region.
Italy reintegrating you back.
Switzerland, although very weak, has the capability to fully invade
Italy even if it's not split apart. If there is a player being
Switzerland, try to negotiate with them. If Switzerland rejects, there are two scenarios. If the Switzerland player is bad, try to make Mountain Specialized troops and slowly invade
Switzerland, while using artillery to weaken the Swiss army. If the Switzerland player is good, abandon ship and restart operations elsewhere.
Savoy and
Sardinia need
Lombardy and
Piedmont to form
Kingdom of Sardinia.
San Marino,
Monaco,
Slovenia,
Bosnia and Herzegovina and
Croatia need your entire formable to form
Ostrogothic Kingdom.
Tunisia needs all of
Italy to form
Carthage.
