The Empire of Haiti was established by the Haitian slaves as an independent black nation under Jacques I, although after his asassination, the nation was split into North and South untill 1811. In 1822, the rest of Hispanola, which was the Kingdom of Haiti and the Republic of Spanish Haiti (Dominican Republic), united. Evenetually, the Spanish half declared independence and the last Haitian Empire was established. The emperor abdicated in 1859, and the First Haitian Republic was established.
