— Description of forming Ethiopian Empire |
The Ethiopian Empire is a formable that sits on the Horn of Africa which can only be formed by
Ethiopia. It borders
Kenya,
South Sudan and
Sudan, and on the other side of the Red Sea are
Saudi Arabia and
Yemen.
Background[]
The Ethiopian Empire was founded in 1270 by the Amhara nobleman Yekuno Amlak. While a small and politically unstable entity, the Empire managed to expand significantly under multiple crusades, temporarily becoming the dominant force of the African Horn. Under the rule of Zara Yaqob, the Hadiya Sultanate was invaded by Ethiopia and the captured Hadiya princess Eleni converted to Christianity leading to her marriage to Zara Yacob. Muslims in the region as well as Adal Sultanate rejected the marriage alliance and began launching several invasion attempts into Ethiopia finally succeeding under Imam Mahfuz. Mahfuz's ambush and defeat by Emperor Lebna Dengel brought about the early 16th century Jihad of the Adalese Imam Ahmed Gran, who was only defeated in 1543. Greatly weakened, much of the Empire's southern territory and vassals were lost due to the Oromo migrations.
Reacting to these challenges, Ethiopia started to expand west. In the 1630s Emperor Fasillides founded the new capital of Gondar, marking the start for a new golden age known as "Gondarine period". It saw relative peace. With the deaths of two emperors the realm eventually entered a period of decentralization, known as "Era of the Princes". The Shewa region seceded and constituted a kingdom of its own, while within the Empire, regional warlords contested for power.
Emperor Tewodros II put an end to that state, reunified the Empire and led it into the modern period before dying during the British Expedition to Abyssinia. His successor Yohannes IV engaged primarily in war and successfully fought the Egyptians and the Mahdists before dying against the latter in 1889. Emperor Menelik II, now residing in Addis Ababa, continued and concluded the policy of expansion of his predecessor, subjugating many people and kingdoms in what is now western, southern and eastern Ethiopia. Thus, he gave Ethiopia the geographical extent it has today. In the north he was confronted with an expanding Italy, and decisively defeating it in 1896 with the aid of Russia and France before succumbing to Italy after the second war, with the Italian Empire occupying Ethiopia and establishing the Italian East Africa colony in the region. After World War II, the Italians were driven out with the help of the British army. The country was one of the founding members of the United Nations, and in 1962 annexed Eritrea. However, the Ethiopian Civil War led to the independence of Eritrea and fall of the Empire in 1974.Economy and Manpower[]
The Ethiopian Empire's economy is one of the best in Africa. With an income of $752,728 and a Manpower cap of 260,695, it is decent for expanding in Africa.
Terrain and Biome[]
Ethiopia is known for its mountainous and semi-mountainous terrain. The northwestern tip of Eritrea is hilly. Because of this, having entrenched troops and artillery in the mountainous terrain will be incredibly hard for any invaders to make rapid advances. Eastern Ethiopia and Western Eritrea have the Arid biome.
Strategy[]
In this strategy, it is assumed that the required nations are AI (which is usually the case in Africa ).
- Build a Recruitment Center and an Electronics Factory on your capital.
Recommended: Research "Skeletonize Equipment" so your units move faster through terrain.
- Create Infantry on the 4 closest cities to
Eritrea. Capture the western cities and work your way east. It is faster to get to Eritrea's easternmost city if you go through Eritrean land to avoid Ethiopian terrain.
- Now that you have annexed Eritrea, Capturing
Djibouti is an easy task, set infantry to Auto-Capture.
- You should be able to create infantry in Eritrea and Djibouti (might need a minute or so more of waiting) by now, so create infantry in those areas to target Somalia's northern coast.
- Create infantry in Ethiopia's easternmost cities (the ones bordering
Somalia) and work your way up from the south.
Congrats! You have formed the Ethiopian Empire.
Threats[]
These threats are likely to invade you or the land you need before you can form:
- Powerful African nations such as
Nigeria,
Egypt,
Democratic Republic of the Congo and
South Africa may be looking to form the
African Union.
Egypt needs
Eritrea to form the
Khedivate of Egypt.
Italy needs almost all of the empire to form the
Italian Empire.
Eritrea can expand themselves to form the
Kingdom of Aksum.
Djibouti can also stop you by forming the
Sultanate of Ifat.
Oman needs
Somalia for the
Omani Empire.
France needs
Djibouti for the
French Empire.
United Kingdom needs
Somalia for the
British Empire.
Sudan needs
Eritrea to form the
Kush.
Somaliland might form the
Adal Sultanate which requires all Ethiopian Releasables except
Oromia.
Trivia[]
- The Custom Alert Button "Away with Ethnic and religious division, Ethiopia be first!" is a subtle easter egg in the game, having roots to a joke suggestion of the "Derg" formable, which consists of well written description and historical background, but also consists of an atrociously bad computer-drawn flag.
