— Description of forming Federation of Southeast Asian States |
The Federation of Southeast Asian States is a formable in Southeast Asia , hence its name. It is a very powerful country in Asia, but not many players choose countries in Southeast Asia, most likely because it lacks many key resources.
Background[]
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising of ten countries in Southeast Asia, which promotes intergovernmental cooperation and facilitates economic, political, security, military, educational, and sociocultural integration among its members and other countries in Asia.

ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok by the five original member countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Brunei joined on 8 January 1984, Vietnam on 28 July 1995, Laos and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999. East Timor has sought to be a member but is not quite yet.
The ASEAN Declaration states that the aims and purposes of the Association are: (1) to accelerate the economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint endeavors in the spirit of equality and partnership in order to strengthen the foundation for a prosperous and peaceful community of Southeast Asian nations, and (2) to promote regional peace and stability through abiding respect for justice and the rule of law in the relationship among countries in the region and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter. In 1995, the ASEAN Heads of State and Government re-affirmed that “Cooperative peace and shared prosperity shall be the fundamental goals of ASEAN.”Economy and Manpower[]
Assuming that you have already made another formable before this, the economy of FSEAS is the 5th best in the world (if no one else expanded their territories or developed their cities), with a gross income of $7.3 million. $6.5 million comes from taxes, and $750k comes from resources. The manpower is also very great, with a maximum manpower cap (2%) of 2,952,831.

Geography[]
The terrain of FSEAS consists of spots of hills in every country, and it's mountainous at the border with India.
There are 377 cities in FSEAS with a total population of 147,641.549 people. The biggest city is Manila with a population of 11.1 million people. The capital depends, but if FSEAS became a country it would be Singapore because it is in the center.
The country borders China to the north,
India and
Bangladesh towards the west, and
Papua New Guinea at the far east.

FSEAS is pretty resource-poor in general. So if you need more resources you can always conquer other countries. You have the sufficient manpower to do so (don't take on India and/or China alone unless both of them are AI). Luckily for you, countries with titanium and tungsten reserves are close by, from Madagascar and
South Africa respectively.
Strategy[]
FSEAS will be pretty hard to form because it is near China and India, and not only that, Japan may take one of the required countries, usually the
Philippines.
First, ally with them or make sure that they won't bother you by acting neutral.
Then you can start earning more income by:
- Trading
- Developing Cities
- Research your Economy Tree
- Change Ideology (Optional)
- Take more Tax (Optional)
As money is so important when you are a Southeast country, you must never fall in debt or you will get invaded very soon and very easily.
Start as Vietnam, Indonesia, or the Philippines because their economies are the one of the best in Southeast Asia.
Switch Doctrines to Massed Attack. Create a decent amount of infantry and form a line right next to your border, make sure you turn off Auto Merge. March your troops to the country you are at war with, and march them to the country capital that you are at war with. If there is over 20k Infantry entrenched there, DON'T GO, as only about 20k infantry is needed to decimate your troops.
For an AI country: You need to go to a random city of that country and then capture it, not a city where there is enemy home guard entrenched. After capturing it, you just want your troops to sit at that city for them to get entrenched, then the home guard will run to the city you capture and get annihilated. Then you just need to set it to Auto-Capture and you are done. This activity is also known as AI Luring and is highly recommended for different countries as well.
For a Player country: First, understand their weaknesses so you can exploit them. See what resources they have to see either if they have enough resources to spam tanks at you, or any other unit that could cause significant damage to your infantry. Then try to make units that can counter the enemy units. Let them go first, so your units can get entrenched and annihilate the enemy units. After their army is gone, you just need to capture their cities which produce the resources to build that units (or head to the capital). If there are still some home guards left in their country, you just need to lure him to move his units to the right spot where you annihilated the others.
As Vietnam[]
Vietnam is a powerful country for its size, and comparable to its neighbor Philippines. With a great economy and a socialist ideology, you should be well prepared for war.
As soon as you join the game and play as Vietnam, there will automatically be two threats: China and India. You must ally one of them (or both) if you want to survive.
- (Don't try to make tanks) Justify conquest on Burma and the Philippines first, as they are the countries most likely to be taken by another country. (If Philippines is a player then make submarines and/or destroyers)
- After justification is complete, declare war on both of them immediately. Then justify on Laos and Cambodia, the two countries required to form Nguyen Dynasty.
By now you should be able to make tanks. Speedrun both Burma and the Philippines while also keeping an eye on your oil stock. Oil shortage quickly kills your tanks and you should buy around 10 units of oil to stay away from oil shortage. Also keep another eye on your income and adjust it so you don't go into deficit.
- Declare war on Laos and Cambodia, then justify on Malaysia and Brunei. When Brunei's justification finishes justify on Singapore.
- By now all of Burma, the Philippines, and later Cambodia and Laos should have collapsed. Peace them all and form the Nguyen Dynasty.
- If you want to make consumer goods, please do so right now.
- Declare war on Brunei. Take note that Brunei's troops are entrenched so you might need a little more than just 200 tanks or 50k troops to defeat Brunei's military.
- Justify war on Thailand and Indonesia.
By now Japan will try to make the Empire of Japan by invading either Malaysia or Indonesia. Try pressuring them into withdrawing from those countries.
- If Brunei has collapsed, declare war and invade Malaysia from Borneo. While you're on your way, declare war on Singapore.
- If Singapore has collapsed, peace them out.
- Declare war on Thailand and blitz them from the north. Keep an eye on your war exhaustion and don't overdo it.
- By now Malaysia should have collapsed. Annex them and use your remaining troops to invade Thailand from the south. Additionally, build up your military to invade Indonesia soon.
- Thailand should now have collapsed. Peace them out and recover (if you need to), then Invade Indonesia.
- It doesn't matter where you invade them from, as long as you finally annex them.
- Now you can (finally) form the Federation of Southeast Asian States!
As Indonesia[]
Indonesia is the biggest country in Southeast Asia. While not as well equipped for war like Vietnam, it has a much bigger manpower pool. Indonesia is also one of the minor superpowers of the world, and making FSEAS is a lot easier and better as Indonesia.
- In the early game, attempt to ally India and China, as they are both superpowers and have a chance at taking your lands required.
- Justify on Burma and the Philippines first, as they are the countries most likely to be taken by another country. (If Philippines is a player then make submarines and/or destroyers)
- Make a steel and motor factory right after you justify on them. Tanks are very useful early game and can speed up the process needed to form.
- After justification is complete, declare war on both of them immediately. Then justify on Laos and Malaysia, Laos to block off China, and Malaysia for the first step to form Srivijaya Empire.
By now you should be able to make tanks.
- Declare war on Laos and Malaysia, and use a larger military division on the latter. Then justify on Vietnam and Brunei, and justify Singapore after Brunei's justification has been finished.
- By now all of Burma, the Philippines, and later Malaysia and Laos should have collapsed. Peace them all.
- If you want to make consumer goods, please do so right now, as they save vital income instead of more government spending.
- Declare war on Brunei. Take note that Brunei's troops are entrenched so you might need a little more than just 200 tanks or 50k troops to defeat Brunei's military. You may use artillery, but it is not recommended as Brunei only has 20k home guard.
- Do the same now but with Singapore.
- Declare war on Vietnam, then justify war on Thailand.
- Brunei should've collapsed by now. Annex them, then make Srivijaya Empire if you want to.
- Declare war on Thailand.
- By now Malaysia should have collapsed. Annex them and use your remaining troops to invade Thailand from the south.
- Thailand should now have collapsed. Peace them out and recover (if you need to), then Invade Cambodia then annex them.
- Now you can form the Federation of Southeast Asian States!
For the Philippines[]
The Philippines is an island country, so it makes it somewhat harder to invade. If you have submarines and other ships it will be a nightmare to invade.
- Justify on Burma and Vietnam first, as they are the countries most likely to be taken by another country. (If Vietnam is a player then make submarines and/or destroyers)
- Make a Steel and Motor Factory right after you Justify on them. Tanks are very useful early game and can speed up the process needed to form.
- After justification is complete, declare war on both of them immediately. Then justify on Laos and Cambodia.
By now you should be able to make tanks. Speed run both Burma and Vietnam while also keeping an eye on your oil stock. Oil shortage quickly kills your tanks and you should buy around 10 units of oil to stay away from oil shortage. Also keep another eye on your income and adjust it so you don't go into deficit.
- Declare war on Laos and Cambodia. Then justify on Malaysia and Brunei. When Brunei's justification finishes justify on Singapore.
- By now all of Burma, Vietnam, and later Cambodia and Laos should have collapsed. Peace them all.
Also build up your military to invade Indonesia soon.
- Thailand should now have collapsed. Peace them out and recover (if you need to), then Invade Indonesia.
- It doesn't matter where you invade them from, as long as you finally annex them.
- Now you can form the Federation of Southeast Asian States! :D
Other nations can form FSEAS as well, but they are not strong enough to have their own strategy on this page. Here is the list of most powerful countries in SE Asia that can form FSEAS:
- Indonesia
- Vietnam
- Philippines
- Thailand
- Malaysia
- Burma
- Cambodia
- Laos
- Singapore (due to the fact it only has one city)
- Brunei

Threats[]
Even though the FSEAS requires a lot of countries to form, the number of states blocking you are relatively small. However, most of the world-class superpowers can easily demolish you if they felt the need.
China being expansionist, because they trying to expanding to south.
- Rarely,
India would take
Burma and
Thailand for the expansion, although India doesn't requires them for their formables.
- Exclude
Thailand,
Japan need the entirely of your formable to form the
Empire of Japan.
- Other countries wanting to form FSEAS
Sometimes, the minor power country would be held by the skilled player that will prevent you from forming FSEAS.
Australia requires some of the cities in
Indonesia to form the
Oceanic Union, since Australia is the best country to form Oceanic Union.
Sri Lanka invading
Malaysia to form the
Kingdom of Kandy.
- Countries that can form
Alam Melayu requires all of the lands in FSEAS, except
Burma and
Laos.
