France is a Tier IV nation located in Western Europe . It has the fourth largest economy in Europe, behind (in order from greatest to least)
Russia, the
United Kingdom, and
Germany. It is a nation highly sought for by players, due to it being viewed as a formidable and prominent country in Europe.
France is commonly challenged by its European neighbors, as it is positioned between the most powerful nations in the region: Spain,
Italy, Germany, and shares a maritime border with the United Kingdom, making it one of the hardest nations to play for beginners.
Background[]
France is a country located in Western Europe. It is known for its rich history, diverse culture, and significant global influence. France has a parliamentary republic system of government and is a member of the European Union. It is renowned for its iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, and Notre-Dame Cathedral. The country is famous for its cuisine, fashion, art, literature, and contributions to science and philosophy. France has been a major player in world politics and has a strong economy with sectors including aerospace, automotive, luxury goods, tourism, and agriculture.
In ancient Gaul, Celtic tribes inhabited the region before it came under Roman rule in the 1st century BC. The Roman influence left lasting legacies in language, infrastructure, and governance. With the fall of the Roman Empire, France entered a feudal period characterized by the power of feudal lords and fragmented political control. This era was marked by conflicts and power struggles among nobles. The Hundred Years' War, a prolonged conflict between France and England, had a profound impact on the country, leading to territorial disputes and social changes. The Renaissance brought intellectual and cultural advancements to France, with a focus on art, science, and humanism. The Protestant Reformation also influenced the country, resulting in religious tensions. The absolutist monarchy under Louis XIV centralized power and fostered cultural brilliance. However, discontent and social inequality eventually led to the French Revolution, a period of radical political and social upheaval. Napoleon Bonaparte's rise to power in the early 19th century saw France become an empire, engaging in extensive military campaigns and implementing administrative reforms. France experienced significant industrialization, colonial expansion, and global conflicts, including World Wars I and II, which had a profound impact on the country and its psyche. The process of decolonization in the mid-20th century saw France granting independence to its colonies, leading to significant geopolitical and cultural shifts. France has been a key player in the process of European integration, participating in the formation of the European Union and the establishment of a common currency, the Euro. Today, France is a modern democratic republic with a diverse cultural landscape, renowned for its art, literature, cuisine, fashion, and contributions to science and philosophy. |

France's Terrain
Terrain[]

France during winter
France is generally flat with some exceptions. It has Mountainous and Hilly terrain on its border with Italy, as well as Semi-Mountainous landscapes on the border with
Spain.
Biome[]
France's biome is fairly normal, having no distinct features. However, during December-January, almost the entire country is affected by Mild Winter with only the tiles of that of its coastline and the Spanish border unaffected (the tiles of the cities Angers, Potiers, Agen, and Toulouse, though falling into neither of that coastline and Spanish border tiles, are unaffected as well).
Cities[]
France has 58 cities, with 4 of them surpassing 1,000,000 population. With all of its cities combined, it sums its base population to 24,881,122 at the start of the game.
Its largest and capital city is Paris, with a spiraling 9,904,000 inhabitants, followed by Lille, with a population of 1,440,000, Lyon, with a population of 1,423,000, and Marseille, with a population of 1,400,000.
Borders[]
France shares an international border with 9 nations, while it has a maritime boundary with the United Kingdom,
Guernsey and
Jersey. These 9 nations are:

Ideology[]
France starts with the Non-Aligned ideology at the start of the game.
Formables[]

France with all releasables released.
France is the foremost country with holding the highest amount of available formables in the European continent, with a whopping total of 5. Those 5 formables that France can unify are:
Releasables[]
Threats[]
The most notable threats that France may encounter throughout the game:
Germany has a larger military and economy than France, and shares an international border. During the early years of the game, it is common for Germany to invade through France in order to expand across Europe, but may also form the
Frankish Empire.
- The
United Kingdom may threaten France by establishing naval superiority in the English Channel, which will support their upcoming invasion via an amphibious assault. France is also needed for the
Franco-British Union or the
Angevin Empire.
- Any European nation attempting to form the
European Union requires France.
Italy shares a Mountainous border with France, which they will often motorize through during an invasion. France is also required to form the
Roman Empire.
Russia normally does not invade France during the beginning of the match, however it may transition to a significant threat during the later stages of the game.
Spain is one of the strongest nations in Western Europe, and it is capable of invading France.
Switzerland holds the potential to rise as a major European power, which will allow the capability to wage a successful war against France. Switzerland is also notorious for its harsh terrain, covered in mountainous, Hilly, and Semi-Mountainous lands, offering them to exploit a significant geographic advantage.
- Although not as important as the other threats listed above, the
United States has a tendency to invade Europe by establishing an active base in the region.
- A very skilled
Morocco player could steamroll
Spain and set France as their next target, this is, however extremely rare.
Strategy[]
Starting Moves[]
If you want to become strong and a power to be reckoned with, you need to actually grow a sizeable economy. At the very start, enact the Improve Infrastructure policy in order to increase the building speed, then research Factory Output I and II for more factory production. After, build one electronic factory, one steel factory, one motor factory, and one fertilizer factory. If you are in deficit of the resources for any of these factories, simply trade for them.
You should then justify conquest on Monaco,
Andorra,
Jersey, and
Guernsey. Then split your home guard in Paris to prepare to attack all of these, also recruit additional infantry in order to support the wars. Upon warring and conquering all 4 nations, seize their treasury to earn hundreds of millions of free money, estimated around to be 200M+ cash, giving a major advantage. With the money stolen, you need to do two things with the spare money.
Firstly, build tons of Civilian Factories in order to get a healthy flow of Consumer Goods. Once the Consumer Goods start flowing in, immediately sell heavy amounts to superpowers or regional powers, such as
India,
Brazil,
Pakistan,
Mexico,
Indonesia,
South Africa, and more; selling will jumpstart a flourishing economy to around over a 10 million income, allowing you to dismiss the Improved Infrastructure policy and raise Government and Research Spending. During an event of losing resources from other factories that bolster the consumer manufactories, either rebuild the factories that are needed to clear the resource deficit, or go Socialism.

Fortifying Cities[]
As France, you have many powerful neighbors, some of these may want to destroy you. It is always wise to construct defenses against these enemies, and maybe even turn these defenses into an offensive weapon. Many nations may want to attack you, and as France, it is best to defend yourself with everything you have, and if these defenses end up not being needed, you can use them as an assault on all your enemies.
This mainly focuses on stopping

Notable Tips[]
- You should build over 4 electronic factories once you get enough money. Sell all electronics to AI afterwards. You will need the money to sustain any invasion or defense of your enemies.
- Use tanks in the early game and stop using them over 2030.
- You don't have to use infantry to sustain your defenses as manpower is vital. If you don't want to lose too much manpower, tanks are a better bet for defending yourself.
- You should take any small countries you can before the other powers in Europe can get them as they will give you vital money you need to destroy your enemies.
German - French War[]
Subverting German Dominance[]
Germany at the start of the game usually tries to invade France. Fret not! Countering Germany is fairly easy, even good Germany players can easily be brought down to their knees.
The Maginot Line[]
The Maginot Line may have failed France in WW2, however it should be revived stronger than ever. Build a line of fortifications on the Belgium and German border! Use tanks to reinforce these fortifications by forming a line on from the German border to the Belgium border as well! However, you should only place the tanks on the fortifications if you are very sure Germany wants to attack you or before you are going to attack Germany.
War against the Germans[]
The Germans will have an exceptionally hard time invading France now. However, the defenses you set up weren't only for well, defense. They were more of a safety net for what is going to occur. Build up around 2k tanks and then declare war on the Germans.
- Split up all your tanks using the form line mechanic and then set them all on auto-capture.
- Gather around 800 tanks and then have them capture Berlin as well. By this point, Germany often creates a giant stack of infantry, and if they did, you should merge all your tanks and continue pumping out more. Split up your tanks into two units and then make one unit attack the stack of infantry from the front and then move the other unit to attack from the back. This will give you more damage because it was a flank and will wipe out any large stack they might make. Any other form of resistance is not something to worry about as only large stacks of infantry can stop you.
- Once Germany's armies are taken out, use all your tanks to capture their land and enjoy having subverted the historical roles between France and Germany!
British- French War[]
Defense against Britain[]
The United Kingdom, although uncommon, can invade France for
Franco-British Union or
Angevin Empire. Neither option is favorable, however, it is easy to stop this.
Domination over the Atlantic[]
You should create a fleet on your ports on the Atlantic. Create 1 battleship, any amount of submarines, and at least 1 destroyer. If the United Kingdom tries to create a navy, build more ships than them.
War against the British[]
You have secured dominance over the seas right? Well, this should make it safe enough to launch an attack on them. It doesn't really matter whether you are not attacked or not. The British will be ended either way.
- Wipe out any navy that the British have as well as any armies that try to cross the English Channel with your navy. This will ensure there are no roadblocks to invading England.
- Gather around 3.2k tanks or more and then send them through the English Channel into London. If the
United Kingdom tries to attack these tanks, simply send your navy to bombard the troops and wait for your tanks to recover to full health.
- Once your tanks are have fully recovered, split them all up and set them to auto-capture on the British. Use your navy to kill any remaining troops the British try to create.
- Once the British have collapsed, you can do anything with both your main threats having been eliminated!
Trivia[]
- France has two different shades of blue for its flag while both are accepted for the flag of France. In the game, France uses the lighter shade of blue. The darker shade of blue has been used recently in 2020, however both shades are still accepted despite the darker shade of blue being used a lot more thanks to French President Emmanuel Macron.
- The actual territory of France in real life is larger than displayed in-game, as it is a trans-continental country with overseas territories and departments in the Americas and the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.[1] These overseas regions were made independent nations in the game as that would make France tedious to conquer.
- Contrary to popular belief, French Fries are not from France, they are from
Belgium.[2]
- For a long time, France had a considered formable known as the
Kingdom of France which was planned to be added to the game. This formable would've been essentially the French Colonial Empire with its 18th Century colonies rather than its 19th and 20th Century territories as seen in the
French Empire.
- On December 18, 2022, following France's defeat against
Argentina in the 2022 World Cup, Hyperant posted a video in the Official Discord of him humorously deleting the texture of France's territory and cities on the globe in his testing server[3][4]. It was intended as a joke and had no adverse effects on the game.
