Background

During the prehistoric era, the lands of Friuli was home to the ancient Castellieri Culture. After this, they were inhabitant of the Carni People. During roman conquests, Friuli was the 4th largest province in roman imperial times, and was a major trade hub being dominant in Adriatic and Northern Europe trade. After the Roman collapse, It belonged to Odoacer, however was taken over by Pannonia ending Greek-Byzantine influence there and founding one of the most important duchy in Lombard, the Duchy of Friuli, and was the most powerful northern Italian duchy under Lombard control. After invasion by the franks, and was the base point of Berengar I struggles for Italy's throne. It soon became a theater of war between the Republic of Venice, and Hungary. During these times Friuli was poverty stricken from countless raids from the Austrian and ottomans, and battles from Hungary and Venice. After the Third War of Italian Independence Udine and west Friuli and Veneto were annexed by the Kingdom of Italy, the eastern part becoming Austrian until Italian annexation in WW1. After WW2, parties in Friuli began to try for independence, however this has recently lost steam.

After this, build up a sizeable tank army using Square cities in your conquered lands, justify on Italy, invade them using your tanks, and form Padania. Now you are free to invade the Balkans, North Africa, or the rest of Europe.
