The Gallic Empire was established by Postumus in 260 in the wake of barbarian invasions and instability in Rome, and at its height included the territories of Germania, Gaul, Britannia, and (for a time) Hispania. After Postumus' assassination in 269 it lost much of its territory, but continued under a number of emperors and usurpers. It was retaken by Roman emperor Aurelian after the Battle of Châlons in 274.
The Gallic Empire or the Gallic Roman Empire are names used in modern historiography for a breakaway part of the Roman Empire that functioned de facto as a separate state from 260 to 274. It originated during the Crisis of the Third Century, when a series of Roman military leaders and aristocrats declared themselves emperors and took control of Gaul and adjacent provinces without attempting to conquer Italy or otherwise seize the central Roman administrative apparatus. The Roman Crisis of the Third Century continued as the Emperor Valerian was defeated and captured by the Sasanian Empire of Persia in the Battle of Edessa, together with a large part of the Roman field army in the east. This left his son Gallienus in very shaky control. Shortly thereafter, the Palmyrene leader Odaenathus gained control of a wide swath of the east, including Egypt, Syria, Judea, and Arabia Petraea; while he was nominally loyal to the Roman government, his domain was de facto independent and has come to be referred to as the Palmyrene Empire. The governors in Pannonia staged unsuccessful local revolts. The Emperor left for the Danube to attend to their disruption. This left Postumus, who was governor of Germania Superior and Inferior, in charge at the Rhine border. An exceptional administrator, Postumus had also ably protected Germania Inferior against an invasion led by the Franks in the summer of 260. In fact, Postumus defeated the Frankish forces at Empel so decisively that there would be no further Germanic raids for 10 years. This all would have combined to make Postumus one of the most powerful men in the western reaches of the Roman Empire. However, Postumus besieged Colonia Agrippina and put the young heir and his guardian to death, making his revolt official. Postumus is thought to have established his capital here or at Augusta Treverorum (Trier); Lugdunum (Lyon) was one of the most important cities in the area under his control. Postumus did not make any effort to extend his control into Italy or to depose Gallienus. Instead, he established parallel institutions modeled on the Roman Empire's central government: his regime had its own praetorian guard, two annually elected consuls (not all of the names have survived), and probably its own senate. According to the numismatic evidence, Postumus himself held the office of consul five times. Postumus successfully fended off a military incursion by Gallienus in 263, and was never challenged by him again. However, in early 269, he was challenged by Laelianus, who was probably one of his own commanders and was declared emperor at Mogontiacum (Mainz) by his Legio XXII Primigenia. Postumus quickly retook Mogontiacum and Laelianus was killed. In the aftermath of the battle, however, Postumus himself was overthrown and killed by his own troops, reportedly because he did not allow them to sack the city. |

Geography[]
The terrain in the Gallic Empire is very diverse. Iberia has hilly regions in the north and south, but region at France is semi-mountainous, with the Alps being mountainous. In addition to France, Scotland is semi-mountainous. For the biomes, the whole nation does not have a set biome but does have winter biomes in December to February such as severe winter and mild winter.
Strategy[]
Start[]
Immediately make 2 electronic factories, 1 motor factory and 1 steel factory and buy 4 copper, 4 gold, 2 tungsten, 0.2 titanium. Sell the electronics but leave 6-9 electronics without selling. Then, make about 60k-80k infantry and then train them to be mountain specialised, maximize your military spending and take them to the Iberian Peninsula. Justify on Portugal , declare war, and take the city farthest from the capital. After some time, if you have enough steel, you can fortify your capital and second largest city. Then, focusing on Portugal, take only the minor cities (under 1m), which are not square cities and then force-peace Portugal. Now, you have a base for making tanks. Wait for the unrest to go down.
Invasion of the Benelux[]
Then, build a fertiliser factory and 2 civilian factories on the top two cities of Portugal and buy 3.5 phosphate. You can choose if you want to sell them or not because it can help you in your stability later onwards. Then, make about 2k-2.5k tanks for France and justify on Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. Then, you want to choose a doctrine and a military leader. I recommend to choose Static Lines or Specialisation. Declare war, and then annex each and every one of them.
Invasion of France[]
Now, you need to annex France, and to do that, wait for the unrest to go down in the Benelux and then spawn about 3k tanks and then justify on France. Take your tanks to the border of Belgium and France and capture the square city. If France isn't a player, all the troops will rush you. If France is a player, then he will most likely camp at Paris or try to rush you. Your tanks might decimate their military if they aren't essentially good at the game. Then, you want to rush Paris and then split your troops and auto capture.
Invasion of the UK[]
Do not invade the UK from the south and capture faroe islands as a base. The, justify and declare war on the UK and then, capture the island in the north. If the UK is AI or not, they will likely rush you (definitely if AI). Try to defend your land by also attacking from the south and then, if your military wins, you can annex the UK.
Invasion of Spain[]
Because you now have both Portugal and France, You can split you troops and then send a force of 2k-3k to Portugal and the remaining to France. Then you can justify and declare war. The Spanish army might focus on the Portuguese side because they might want to form the Iberian Union. Then you can send your force in France down to auto-capture Spain. Now, the Spanish army will most probably focus on recapturing their land and then you can send your tanks in Portugal to auto-capture. The double-sided attack will likely decimate the Spain. Then, you can annex Spain.

Trivia[]
- The Gallic Empire was alive during the years of Rome as it was a breakaway state.
- The empire lived only 14 years in the reality.
- The unofficial Gallic flag is a green field with three rotating golden boar heads forming a triskelion.
- Apparently, this formable is counted as one of the hardest in the game because of how long and hard to avoid getting in war with advanced countries and economic and military troubles (not-so-related-to-history)
