The Home Guard are the starting infantry in countries. Their aim is to make conquering AI countries harder and allowing you to have some sort of basic military the second you start playing. Each country has a different amount of Home Guard which is usually based on the nation's population and manpower. For example, Mongolia has 20,000 (20k) Home Guard while China has 1,840,000 (1.84M). Home guards are entrenched from the start to the end of the game if the ai hasn't been invaded.

There is nothing special about them, their starting experience is 125/300 which gives them +25% Attack/Defense bonus. They are regular starting infantry and are often used as a starting boost for army.

Home guards always generate in capital city or largest cities of their country.

French Home Guards

One example of a home guard's location is France having their home guard in Paris, the biggest city and capital of France.

HomeGuard2

Polish Home Guards

Another example is Poland having their home guard in city named Katowice which has more population than it's capital: Warsaw

Another example is is New Zealand with their home guard in Tamaki Makaurau(Auckland) instead of Wellington.

Strategy[]

There are multiple ways to eliminate home guards. The most common way of eradicating them is the "Breaking Entrenchment Strategy". This is when you capture a city nearby a nation's Home Guard. Once the captured city has been registered, the Home Guard will arrive at the captured city to try and retake it. By the time the Home Guard has arrived at the captured city, your troops should either be entrenched or at least prepared to fight the enemy. For more strategies, check out the "A.I. Luring" page.
