Hungary is a Tier III landlocked nation located in Central Europe . While weak, the nation has a formidable amount of famous formables, such as the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary. The country is rarely played, due to its low base statistics and unfortunate location, surrounded by the major powers of Europe.
Background[]
Hungary (Hungarian: Magyarország) is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Spanning 93,030 square kilometres (35,920 sq mi) of the Carpathian Basin, it is bordered by Slovakia to the north, Ukraine to the northeast, Romania to the east and southeast, Serbia to the south, Croatia and Slovenia to the southwest, and Austria to the west. Hungary has a population of 9.7 million, mostly ethnic Hungarians and a significant Romani minority. Hungarian, the official language, is the world's most widely spoken Uralic language and among the few non-Indo-European languages widely spoken in Europe. Budapest is the country's capital and largest city; other major urban areas include Debrecen, Szeged, Miskolc, Pécs, and Győr. The territory of present-day Hungary has for centuries been a crossroads for various peoples, including Celts, Romans, Germanic tribes, Huns, West Slavs and the Avars. The foundation of the Hungarian state was established in the late 9th century AD with the conquest of the Carpathian Basin by Hungarian grand prince Árpád. His great-grandson Stephen I ascended the throne in 1000, converting his realm to a Christian kingdom. By the 12th century, Hungary became a regional power, reaching its cultural and political height in the 15th century. Following the Battle of Mohács in 1526, it was partially occupied by the Ottoman Empire (1541–1699). Hungary came under Habsburg rule at the turn of the 18th century, later joining with the Austrian Empire to form Austria-Hungary, a major power into the early 20th century. Austria-Hungary collapsed after World War I, and the subsequent Treaty of Trianon established Hungary's current borders, resulting in the loss of 71% of its territory, 58% of its population, and 32% of ethnic Hungarians. Following the tumultuous interwar period, Hungary joined the Axis powers in World War II, suffering significant damage and casualties. Postwar Hungary became a satellite state of the Soviet Union, leading to the establishment of the Hungarian People's Republic. Following the failed 1956 revolution, Hungary became a comparatively freer, though still repressed, member of the Eastern Bloc. The removal of Hungary's border fence with Austria accelerated the collapse of the Eastern Bloc and subsequently the Soviet Union. On 23 October 1989, Hungary again became a democratic parliamentary republic. Hungary joined the European Union in 2004 and has been part of the Schengen Area since 2007. Hungary is a middle power in international affairs, owing mostly to its cultural and economic influence. It is a high-income economy with universal health care and tuition-free secondary education. Hungary has a long history of significant contributions to arts, music, literature, sports, science and technology. It is a popular tourist destination in Europe, drawing 24.5 million international tourists in 2019. It is a member of numerous international organisations, including the Council of Europe, NATO, United Nations, World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, World Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the Visegrád Group. In recent times, Hungary has developed increasingly strong geopolitical ties with the Eastern World. Since 2018, it has held observer status within the Organisation of Turkic States. |

Borders[]
Hungary borders the following countries at the start of the game:
Threats[]
Hungary has many threats at the start of the game, primarily due to starting near Central Europe, a region which usually gets taken out by stronger powers early on.
- Germany often takes over Austria and the Czech Republic, thus preventing Hungary from forming the Austro-Hungarian Empire. They may also go on to invade Hungary itself.
- Russia may look further than just the countries that are required in its formables, and may look to invade you in rare cases.
- Turkey almost always invades the Balkans to form the Ottoman Empire or for simple expansion, preventing you from forming formables with territory that extends into the region (e.g. the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary).
- Italy usually takes over the Balkans, and in some cases, expands up into Hungary.
Strategies[]
How to defend against Germany and Russia[]
1. Build some electronic factories for money. Over time, be sure to create other factories and consumer goods as these will make up most of your income. Go socialist for more factory production and MP, as well as do mass attack doctrine. Tanks are highly discouraged.
2. Annex Slovakia and Romania. These countries have mountainous terrain that will help you a lot later.
3. Get everything that you need for Austria-Hungary (except for Austria and Czech Republic)
4. At this point, Germany or Russia will probably want a piece of you. Make forts on the mountainous terrain in Slovakia and Romania. Have about 70-100k highly trained infantry stationed there. Research your infantry tech to defend against tanks.
5. Build as many pieces of artillery as you can support with your income. Fully research everything in the support tech tree. Make bombers as well.
6. Make 3 submarines: one in the Black Sea and 2 in the Mediterranean to prevent a naval invasion through there and destroy any naval bombardment.
7. By now Germany or Russia probably declared war on you. It's showtime. The mountainous terrain should slow their troops down and therefore increases artillery effectiveness. Your entrenched, highly trained, anti-tank troops stationed in forts should be able to hold about a million troops per fort and 300-400k non-mountain forts. Change your conscription to required and constantly make stacks of 100k.
8. They will attack again. DO NOT INVADE. They might also make artillery if they are smart. If so, then use some of your newly made troops to attack their artillery. It shouldn't be much of a problem since your support research tech is fully researched.
9. Due to all their losses, their stability should be bad, their MP would be gone, and their power should greatly diminish. Now is when you attack. Attempt to go straight to the German capital, this will further lower Germany's stability and cause Germany to collapse. Send your other troops to capture German cities, take out the biggest ones and scorch them, enjoy Germany cry.
Trivia[]
- The most popular puzzle in the world (The Rubik's Cube) was invented by a Hungarian Architect named Ernő Rubik in 1974. It took Ernő Rubik 1 month before he could inevitably solve his own creation. The Rubik's Cube sold 350 million units for the next 40 years after its creation.
