Infrastructure is a building that provides boosts to four features within its proximity: ground movement speed, factory output, resource output, and building speed.

Description[]

Infrastructure is a building designed to increase ground movement speed, factory output, resource output, and building speed. The building has ten levels, with the maximum factory output, resource output, and the building speed boost concluding at 2x (tier X or 10). Additionally, ground movement speed can also maximize at 2x bonus if all cities in their mutual tile have the highest infrastructure. However, conflicting infrastructure levels among cities in the same tile will determine the movement speed based on the average infrastructure level of the tile. To view the average infrastructure level in a tile, open the 'Infrastructure' map mode, then hover over the map.

Likewise to other buildings, infrastructure is capable of losing tiers from scorching, bombers, nukes, and enemy occupation during war. Bombers passively reduce the infrastructure level, scorching reverts the infrastructure level back to I (1), and enemy occupation reduces the infrastructure level by one. As a result, it is utmost important to protect any form of critical infrastructure, particularly using artillery, anti aircraft, and fortifications, ideally on the most crucial and vital cities (such as cities that incorporate high population, tax revenue, manpower growth, etc.), to secure them to some degree from adverse enemy attacks.

Cost[]

The base cost to upgrade the infrastructure tier/level on a city depends on three factors: population, infrastructure level, and terrain. Higher city population, infrastructure level, and terrain elevation (such as Mountainous or Semi-Mountainous) result in a larger construction cost, while the lower the city's population, infrastructure level, and terrain elevation (such as flat lowlands), the construction cost will be smaller. Some external aspects can also directly reduce the infrastructure cost (excluding global building cost reduction modifiers), particularly the Infrastructure Minister and the Improved Infrastructure policy.

Additionally, should infrastructure be built on occupied cites during war, the construction cost will be higher than building one on the homeland.

Strategy[]

Infrastructure is crucial for nations aligned with ideologies such as Socialism and Communism, especially in resource-rich regions like Saudi Arabia, Russia, Central Asia , South Africa, North Africa , West Africa, and more. In these regions, well-developed infrastructure, coupled with fully-powered mines, can significantly boost resource income, leading to a thriving economy. Infrastructure can also be built on regions that house a substantial amount of factories, as maximum infrastructure also doubles factory output. It is also crucial for fastening the process of industrial development, as it increases building speed.

However, under Democracy, development is more important than infrastructure. Democracy prioritizes tax collection over resource income, making development buildings essential for boosting tax revenue. Simultaneously, infrastructure still holds importance in Democracies as it can boost factory and resource output, along with building speed, similar to its effects in Communist and Socialist nations. Additionally, investing in infrastructure is vital during resource shortages, even with fully-powered mines, to maintain a balanced supply of resources and to strengthen the economy overall.

Aside from its industrial advantages, infrastructure can be viewed as a double-edged sword: one side provides mostly advantages, while the other side presents drawbacks to a limited extent. Infrastructure should be avoided in the early months or years of the match if you are playing as a nation with little-to-no resources at the start and are bound to enter a war soon, particularly in Western Europe . This is because while infrastructure provides ground movement boosts to you, enemies who manage to breach into your homeland can exploit the cities with decent infrastructure you constructed, essentially providing benefits for both you and your enemy. Additionally, infrastructure is practically a waste of money at the start if you begin with inadequate natural resources, despite providing ground movement boosts.

Nonetheless, infrastructure's boost to ground speed remains incredibly useful those who encompass Semi-Mountainous and Mountainous terrain, especially when lacking adequate mobility modifiers or strengthening transport logistics during war.

Trivia[]

  • Infrastructure replaced roads upon its release in the 01/26/2024 Minor Update (January 26, 2024).
  • No infrastructure level reduction will occur if the city that falls under enemy occupation has existing cores on the country that lost it.
  • Infrastructure contains the fastest construction time out of all buildings in the game, without any modifiers.
  • Infrastructure is one of the two buildings capable of being built on occupied cities during war.
  • The maximum infrastructure level shares the same resource output boost to a fully-powered mine.
  • There a variety of cities and nations that begin with an infrastructure level greater than I (1), as some begin with II (2) or III (3)
  • On January 24, 2024, the day when infrastructure was first announced, Hyperant did not post any videos or images in regards to infrastructure. Instead, he opened a play-test session in the testing server to gather community feedback surrounding the building in the Official Discord.
  • The term "Infrastructure" can root from other in-game features instead solely on the building, such as the 'Improved Infrastructure' policy, the 'Infrastructure Minister' political leader, and the upcoming espionage operation, 'Destroy Infrastructure'.
  • Infrastructure's building speed modifier would release on the 06/10/2024 Minor Update (June 10, 2024).
