— Description of forming Intermarium |
Intermarium is a formable of Poland,
Ukraine, and
Belarus. Its territory stretches from
Finland in the north,
Croatia and
Macedonia in the south, aswell as
Luhansk in the east. With such vast territories, and such an unfortunate location, it's no surprise that Intermarium is a relatively difficult formable, primarily due to
German and
Russian expansionism.
It's no wonder that encompassing such territoires equates to a formidable base statistics supply, which can be broken down into an extraordinarily good military and economy. The formable is rarely seen in public servers, and is usually only attempted by experienced players, who can fend off the ever-rising threat of the aforementioned Germany and Russia.
Interestingly, despite being able to form it, Belarus is not actually required for the formable. The formable also has no formable modifier, which is rare amongst formables with similar sizes to it.
Background[]
Intermarium (Polish: Międzymorze), was a geopolitical project conceived by politicians in successor states of the former Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth in several iterations, some of which anticipated the inclusion as well of other, neighboring states. The proposed multinational polity would have extended across territories lying between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas, hence the name meaning "Between-Seas". Prospectively a federation of Central and Eastern European countries, the post-World War I Intermarium plan pursued by Polish leader and former political prisoner of the Russian Empire, Józef Piłsudski, sought to recruit to the proposed federation the Baltic states, Finland, Belarus, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia. The Polish name Międzymorze (from między, "between"; and morze, "sea"), meaning "Between-Seas", was rendered into Latin as "Intermarium". The proposed federation was meant to emulate the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, that, from the end of the 16th century to the end of the 18th, had united the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Intermarium complemented Piłsudski's other geopolitical vision, Prometheism, whose goal was the dismemberment of the Russian Empire and that Empire's divestment of its territorial acquisitions. Intermarium was, however, perceived by some Lithuanians as a threat to their newly established independence, and by some Ukrainians as a threat to their aspirations for independence, and while France backed the proposal, it was opposed by Russia and by most other Western powers. Within two decades of the failure of Piłsudski's grand scheme, all the countries that he had viewed as candidates for membership in the Intermarium federation had fallen to the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany, except for Finland (which suffered some territorial losses in the Winter War with the Soviet Union). |
Base Statistics[]
The western area of the country is relatively lacking in rare resources, however Ukraine, Romania, and Finland having important titanium reserves, and Finland having tungsten reserves as well, make it a country that a player can run self-sufficiently easily.

Geography[]
Terrain[]
Southeastern Poland, the
Czech-Polish and Czech-
German border tiles, western
Slovakia, northwestern
Romania, all of
Slovenia, the
Croatian western panhandle, northeastern
Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the western half of
Serbia (excluding Vojvodina) are Hilly. Next, the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Montenegro, and the southeastern tiles of the Carpathian Mountains are Semi-Mountainous. Finally, the only Mountainous tiles in the formable are the rest of the Carpathian Mountains. The rest of Intermarium is flat.
Biome[]
The only permanent biome the formable has is Arctic in the northern half of Finland. Otherwise, during December-January, almost all of
Ukraine and
Poland,
Belarus, the Baltics, the rest of FInland, the
Czech Republic, eastern and central
Slovakia, northeastern
Hungary, and northern
Romania experience Severe Winter. Elsewhere in Intermarium, the Ukrainian releasables of
Budjak and
Crimea, the tiles surrounding the cities of Koszalin, Szczecin, and Wrocław, the rest of Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania, and almost everywhere in the South Slavic countries including the tile surrounding the city of Rijeka (the rest of the
Croatian coastal tiles is in the normal biome year-round) experience Mild Winter during the aforementioned months.
In November and February, the Mild Winter tiles revert to the normal biome, while the Severe Winter tiles change to Mild Winter.
Borders[]
It borders Germany, Austria and Italy to the west, Sweden and Norway to the north, Albania, Greece, and Bulgaria to the south and Russia to the east.
Strategy[]
Strategy for Poland:
- Ally with Germany first.
- If they don't accept, invade them.
Ally Russia.
- If they don't accept, then ally with China.
- Justify war conquest on Belarus and Ukraine.
- Get a limited conscription.
- Annex Belarus and Ukraine, then declare war on Latvia and Lithuania and form Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
- Declare war on Finland and Estonia.
- After that declare war on Czech Republic and Slovakia to form Zapadoslavia.
- Repeat this several times declaring wars to nations of Intermarium.
- Optionally, use diplomacy to handle problems of taken countries you need.
There are several strategies for several nations, but the Polish one is the most popular. Surviving as Belarus, and Ukraine is also difficult, but once allied with Russia, it will become easier.
Strategy for Ukraine:
Form the Kievan Rus as you ally Russia or China and justify war on Romania and Estonia. Get Poland after allying with Germany (you will need to back stab them soon) and invade the Baltic states and Finland. Go for Sweden too. To get tungsten, get tanks and break ties with Germany. Keep building your army and invade the Balkans. Once you declare war on Germany, use Poland as a jumping off point and rush to Berlin and their factories, so they can't stop you from annexing the Czech Republic and themselves. And there you have it!

Trivia[]
- The old flag of Intermarium was from EarthMC, a Minecraft server. It was for this reason that it was replaced.
- The flag of Baltoscandia, another EarthMC nation, can be found in the top left of Intermarium's old flag. This is due to the way puppets work in the server, which is similar to the way they work in Rise of Nations.
