— Description of forming Kalmar Union |
The Kalmar Union is a formable made up of Sweden,
Norway,
Denmark,
Finland,
Iceland and
Greenland.
It is recommended you form this as Sweden or Norway. The United Kingdom may not like the fact you took Norway, Iceland or Denmark, because then they cannot form the
North Sea Empire. The Brits may attack, so try allying them. If they decline, ally as many European nations as possible to pressure the U.K, and you may have a chance to survive. If everyone rejects your alliance request or ditch you during a war, naval units can be used to your advantage. You can always server hop if things get too hectic.
Historically, the union was notoriously weak, despite surviving for almost 3 centuries.
Background[]
The following is taken from Wikipedia which is licensed under CC-BY-SA 4.0. You can view the article it was taken from here.
The Kalmar Union was a personal union in Scandinavia, agreed at Kalmar in Sweden, that from 1397 to 1523 joined under a single monarch the three kingdoms of Denmark,
Sweden, and
Norway, together with Norway's overseas colonies (then including
Iceland,
Greenland, the
Faroe Islands, and the Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland).
The union was the work of Scandinavian aristocracy wishing to counter the influence of the Hanseatic League, a northern German trade league centered around the Baltic and North Seas. More personally, it was achieved by Queen Margaret I of Denmark (1353–1412). She was a daughter of King Valdemar IV and had married King Haakon VI of Norway and Sweden, who was the son of King Magnus IV of Sweden, Norway and Scania. Margaret succeeded in having her and Haakon's son Olaf recognized as heir to the throne of Denmark. In 1376 Olaf inherited the crown of Denmark from his maternal grandfather as King Olaf II, with his mother as guardian; when Haakon VI died in 1380, Olaf also inherited the crown of Norway. One main impetus for its formation was to block German expansion northward into the Baltic region. The main reason for its failure to survive was the perpetual struggle between the monarch, who wanted a strong unified state, and the Swedish and Danish nobility, which did not. The union was not quite continuous; there were several short interruptions. Legally, the countries remained separate sovereign states. However, their domestic and foreign policies were directed by a common monarch. Gustav Vasa's election as king on 6 June 1523, and his triumphant entry into Stockholm eleven days later, marked Sweden's final secession from the Kalmar Union. Formally, the Danish king acknowledged Sweden's independence in 1524 at the Treaty of Malmö. |
Economy and Manpower[]
The Kalmar Union generates an income of $1,360,524. It has a maximum manpower cap of 375,267. It has a manpower gain of around 2,606 daily.
Geography[]
Terrain[]
In the Kalmar Union, mountains are very common, located in Greenland, Iceland, and Norway. The Semi-Mountainous terrain covers the entirety of Greenland and
Iceland, and the northern tip of
Norway. The Mountainous terrain can only be found in the most northern point in
Norway's mainland. Everything else is flat.
Biome[]
The Arctic and normal biomes dominate the Kalmar Union. The biggest contributors to the Arctic lands are Greenland,
Norway, and
Iceland. The NULL biome will snow during the months of November-February further north of
Denmark. All of Denmark will undergo a mild winter in this time period.
Threats[]
Germany will usually annex
Denmark early on or want to expand north.
Russia wanting to form the
Russian Empire or expanding westward.
- The
United Kingdom trying to form the
North Sea Empire .
- The
United States or
Canada occupying
Greenland or
Iceland as a naval base or to access Europe.
Poland,
Belarus, or
Ukraine wanting to form
Intermarium.
- Another Nordic player attempting to also form the Kalmar Union .
Norway,
Sweden or
Denmark wanting to form their Empires (
Norgesveldet,
Swedish Empire or
Danish Empire respectively).
- Any nation willing to form the
European Union.
Strategy[]
Forming the Kalmar Union is pretty easy unless other nations like Germany,
Russia, and the
United Kingdom prevent you from forming. The easiest to form it as is
Norway, because you won't have to invade it's mountainous regions.
As Norway[]
- Form an alliance with
Germany, the
United Kingdom and
Russia. If they accept, attempt to negotiate with them.
- Put a mine on your copper producing city, buy 4 gold and then make 2 Electronic Factories. (Don't forget to sell electronics to AI).
- Justify on
Denmark so the United Kingdom or Germany don't annex it before you.
While you are doing this, use all of your manpower to spam troops and specialize them for the winter biome. Build mines on your titanium and copper producing cities and buy 2 tungsten from someone.
- Buy 1 iron and make a motor and steel manufactory near your capital and buy a small amount of oil to make tanks.
- When you are done justifying, instantly declare war on and annex
Denmark.
- Next up, you should justify on
Finland and
Sweden, as they are the most likely to be taken next.
- Buy 1 iron and make a motor factory and Steel manufactory near your capital if you haven't already, and then spawn tanks to take Sweden and Finland faster; you should also specialise them for winter if you have the time and money to do so. Don't forget to cancel oil trade if you had any, because Denmark has oil, same for the iron and gold trades.
- You should also boost your research and economy technologies, aswell as upgrading your tanks' armor and firepower regularly.
- When the justification is done, declare was on and capture Finland and Sweden, also justify on
Greenland and
Iceland. Once you've conquered all of them, you can finally form the Kalmar Union.
As Sweden[]
- Instantly justify on
Finland and
Denmark while boosting your copper and gold cities using mines and forming alliances with
Germany,
Russia, and the
United Kingdom. If they all accept, that means they are most likely willing to negotiate to help you form. If they decline, there's a chance they could invade you.
- Make 1 electronics factory at your capital and sell these to AI. And use your manpower to spawn infantry.
- When the justifications is done declare war on both, and that should be good. Justify on the
Faroe Islands and
Greenland while you are doing that.
- Start making a second electronics factory on a high population city and start building a steel and a motor factory, while putting mines on the titanium-producing cities of Finland, and tungsten cities.
- Then declare war on Faroe Islands and Greenland, while justifying on
Iceland and
Norway, don't forget to use frigates to kill the
Faroe Islands' home guards. You should also start boosting your research and economies technologies.
- When you are done declare on Iceland, and train some of your troops to winter specialization, and when they are done training, declare on Norway. Once you are done with Norway after a long moment, and with Iceland, you can finally form the Kalmar Union!
As Finland[]
Finland is a bit harder than the precedents ones; you will need to form an alliance with Baltics if they are a player,
Russia, the
United Kingdom,
Germany,
Poland,
Belarus,
Ukraine and others Nordic if they are players. (You will break ties when you will be powerful or if they become AI)
- First. build mines in your copper producing cities, as well for titanium and tungsten. Buy any number of copper and gold you need left to upkeep your electronics factories, then start making 2-3 of them; buy iron to make a steel and motor factory.
- Justify on
Sweden and
Denmark, and spawn infantries/tanks. Defend your capital with artillery and tanks if Russia didn't accept your alliance.
- Then declare first on Sweden. If they are a player, declare on Denmark, if they are also a player, rejoin another server because it will be very harder and longer.
- During this war, prepare some frigates and mines in your oil-producing cities, and then when you got half of
Sweden you can go declaring
Denmark with some troops. Don't forget to justify on the
Faroe Islands and
Iceland.
- When you are done with Sweden and Denmark, declare on the Faroe Islands and move your navy to their home guards, also declare on
Iceland. Justify on
Norway and
Greenland. Make lot of infantry that you will split in 3 groups of 5+ units and you will train in winter specialization.
- Once Iceland and the Faroe Islands, declare war on Greenland and use infantry to annex it. For annexing Greenland, capture the northernmost city first. Its home guard will get lured to it due to this. Due to the Arctic biome, the Greenlandic home guard will take a long time to reach that captured city. Use this to your advantage, and while they're trudging slowly to retake their city, quickly move your troops to the Greenlandic capital via a naval invasion. You should capture the capital while the home guard is still attempting to retake their lost city. Quickly annex Greenland via the peace terms, and you would have captured a nation without having to fight its military once. When you are done with Greenland, and your troops done training, you can declare Norway and using the trained troops on it. It is best to send your largest division to AI Lure the Norwegian troops, and you should AI Lure them somewhere near Oslo. For the rest of your troops, form a line on the western coast of Norway, and conduct naval landings there, to ensure you capture cities as fast as possible in the central areas. After you capture Norway, annex it, and form.
As Denmark[]
Denmark is going to be the third hardest behind
Iceland, because it is a poor country that either
Germany or the
United Kingdom would invade, that why it is recommended to ally these both. If they refuse you will sadly have to change server as you will have not really any chance. You also need to ally with
Russia for the same reason as every other country. If the Nordics are players, and is either
Norway or
Sweden, you are dead if they want to form.
- Industrialize and build 2-3 electronics factories and 1 steel and motor factory.
- Justify on the
Faroe Islands and Iceland. Use up your manpower reserves and construct a frigate.
- Once your justification on the Faroe Islands is complete, declare war. Use your frigate to lower the home guard's numbers to at least 14k, and conquer the Faroe Islands. Then, your infantry on Iceland.
- Now that you got a bit more manpower, you can make more infantry and justify on
Greenland and Sweden.
- After that you should declare on Greenland first, and build mines in gold and copper-producing cities to make at least 1 electronics factory and get more income. Then make more troops and declare on Sweden while justifying on
Finland and Norway. Sweden will be hard to get, but once you will get it, it will be easier to form. Then use the Swedish resources to make a second electronics factory.
- Declare on
Finland and use all your troops on them. Use their resources for a last electronics factory and places mines in titanium and tungsten-producing cities.
- And finally, train your troop on winter, when it's done declare on Norway, and at the end, you will be able to form!
As Greenland[]
- Make an electronics factory as soon as you spawn in.
Greenland has 2 units of gold and copper at the start of the game so you won't need to worry about trading or losing money. When it is done, sell it to AI nations.
- Start training your troops. You should buy a frigate and a unit of artillery and use the rest for infantry. Then, justify on
Iceland and either
Denmark or
Portugal. Portugal is only recommended if
Spain is not a player. It will also give you a square city so you could make tanks. But Denmark is highly recommended because it is like Portugal. But you'll have to invade quickly, because most players as Germany will invade Denmark, but usually before invading it, it will invade the
Czech Republic and
Austria. But the
United Kingdom could also invade it for the
North Sea Empire.
- When the justification is finished, declare war on either Denmark or Portugal. No one declares war on Icelandf at the start of the game so you can leave it alone for now. Use the AI luring method and take the country.
- If you hadn't already, take Denmark, and justify on
Sweden and
Finland. Buy some steel and motor parts from another country, you should also use the frigate to make the home guards lose some troops. And since Sweden and Finland are a bit close, you could damage both troops at the same time. When the tanks are done building, use the AI Luring method, and take Sweden.
- When Stockholm is under your rule, declare on Finland and focus most of your troops on Finland. While doing that, justify on
Norway. You should put send some troops to annex Finland's northern most cities, so when the home guards come to try recapture them, you can send more troops (about 20-40k) to Helsinki, and capture Finland on both sides.
- Now you should have a decent amount of manpower in store. Declare war on Norway. From your mainland, send some troops to capture Longyearbyen. Use either the frigate to destroy some troops or use the tanks you have to lure them in. Take Oslo. and the cities with no mountains. Now this is where it gets tricky. Use the tanks to take the southern area as they have the most population. Than use some troops to go to some cities by ship. When they are done annexing it, use some of them to keep traveling up wards and using the rest to go to the sea and sending them to other cities. Use the troops that annexed Longyearbyen to start annexing the north of Norway. Eventually, Norway should collapse.
- Now you will declare war on Iceland. Use the frigate or make a destroyer to harm some troops. Use most of your troops to annex Iceland's northernmost city. Use the rest to get the capital and the rest of the cities. And you should have annexed all of him
- Now you can form the Kalmar Union as the hardest country to form as, Greenland!
As Iceland[]
The first thing you want to do before invading anything is ally any threats that could ruin your plans. If anyone declines your military alliance, server hop. If they all accept the alliance, talk to them about forming the Kalmar Union. If one, or non agree with what you want to do, server hop. The opposite is true if they all agree or don't care about what you want to do.
- Buy oil for your navy, and buy 3 gold and 3 copper. Do your research in the economic trees. Mobilize your units. Make at least 60k troops, and 1 destroyer/frigate. Develop your cities, make recruitment centers, and an electronics factory in the capital. Prepare to swoop in and take the
Faroe Islands with the troops you have. After you have annexed the Faroe Islands, you should take priority on
Denmark, and the
Netherlands. Create 20k more troops, and prepare to invade Denmark.
- Use the A.I Luring technique when concurring Denmark, the Netherlands,
Norway,
Sweden,
Finland, and
Greenland (which you will invade later on). After the unrest has died off in Denmark, build another electronics factory in København, and sell some electronics to some A.I nations. Get the materials you need to operate Steel and Motor factories, and wait for the unrest to die out in the Netherlands. Build the Steel and Motor Factories in Amsterdam and The Hague. Spam mines in the Netherlands so you can produce more oil, and build 400 tanks in København.
- With whatever troops you have, invade
Greenland with them. Make sure to travel by sea. Although costly, it does get the job done more efficiently. Make more troops and justify your war goal on Norway, and Sweden.
- Annex Greenland, and with your 400 tanks, invade Sweden. Invade Norway with whatever troops you got. Grab all of mainland Norway, and force-peace it to avoid taking Longyearbyen. (If you are in a financial crisis, and need money really bad, invade
Belgium, the Baltic nations, or any micro-state, and annex them for the money and resources they provide.)
- After you have annexed Norway and Sweden, you should take your focus onto
Finland. You should have 80K-150K troops by this point. Do the A.I Luring method, split your army, and take over the nation. Once Finland has collapsed, annex it. Congratulations, you formed the Kalmar Union as
Iceland!
Trivia[]
- You could originally get the Viking title for forming the Kalmar Union , though it has been moved to forming the
North Sea Empire.
- If the Kalmar Union has not been formed yet, it is possible to make a Kalmar Union faction by moving your capital to the Swedish city of Kalmar and creating a faction using the name "[Capital city name] Union". If the Kalmar Union is formed afterwards, the nation will take priority and the faction name will become Workspace.
