Latvia (/ˈlɑːtviə/ or /ˈlætviə/ (listen); Latvian: Latvija [ˈlatvija]; Latgalian: Latveja; Livonian: Leţmō), officially the Republic of Latvia (Latvian: Latvijas Republika, Latgalian: Latvejas Republika, Livonian: Leţmō Vabāmō), is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is one of the Baltic states; and is bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia to the east, Belarus to the southeast, and shares a maritime border with Sweden to the west. Latvia covers an area of 64,589 km2 (24,938 sq mi), with a population of 1.9 million. The country has a temperate seasonal climate. Its capital and largest city is Riga. Latvians belong to the ethno-linguistic group of the Balts; and speak Latvian, one of the only two surviving Baltic languages. Russians are the most prominent minority in the country, at almost a quarter of the population. After centuries of German, Swedish, Polish-Lithuanian and Russian rule, which was mainly executed by the Baltic German aristocracy, the Republic of Latvia was established on 18 November 1918 when it broke away from the German Empire and declared independence in the aftermath of World War I. However, by the 1930s the country became increasingly autocratic after the coup in 1934 establishing an authoritarian regime under Kārlis Ulmanis. The country's de facto independence was interrupted at the outset of World War II, beginning with Latvia's forcible incorporation into the Soviet Union, followed by the invasion and occupation by Nazi Germany in 1941, and the re-occupation by the Soviets in 1944 to form the Latvian SSR for the next 45 years. As a result of extensive immigration during the Soviet occupation, ethnic Russians became the most prominent minority in the country, now constituting nearly a quarter of the population. The peaceful Singing Revolution started in 1987, and ended with the restoration of de facto independence on 21 August 1991. Since then, Latvia has been a democratic unitary parliamentary republic. Latvia is a developed country, with a high-income advanced economy; ranking very high in the Human Development Index. It performs favorably in measurements of civil liberties, press freedom, internet freedom, democratic governance, living standards, and peacefulness. Latvia is a member of the European Union, Eurozone, NATO, the Council of Europe, the United Nations, the Council of the Baltic Sea States, the International Monetary Fund, the Nordic-Baltic Eight, the Nordic Investment Bank, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and the World Trade Organization. |

Formables[]
Latvia has three formables:
Courland-Livonia, which needs
Estonia,
Gambia, and
Trinidad and Tobago.
European Union, which needs most nations in Europe.
United Baltic Federation, which needs
Estonia and
Lithuania.
Geography[]
Latvia has flat terrain. However, in the winter it is affected by Severe Winter and in the months of February and November it gets affected by Mild Winter. It has a border with Lithuania,
Belarus,
Russia, and
Estonia.
Cities[]
Latvia starts with 6 cities. Its largest city, Riga, is its capital. Riga has a starting population of 742,572 people. None of Latvia's cities are square cities, and these cities only add up to a meager population of 1,087,699 people.
Threats[]
Latvia like the rest of the Baltics is in the center of Eastern Europe
Russia who needs you to form the
Soviet Union/
Russian Empire.
Poland,
Ukraine,
Belarus needing you to form
Intermarium.
Estonia/
Lithuania needing you to form the
United Baltic Federation.
- Scandinavian countries expanding southward.
Poland/
Lithuania needing you to form the
Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Strategy[]
Latvia should immediately start by allying Germany,
Russia, or
China. If this fails, Latvia will at least have some time before the impending Russian invasion. Latvia should also justify on
Estonia and
Lithuania. To get Latvia's economy up, the player should build a 2-3 electronic factories (buy 2
Copper and 2
Gold per factory) and sell those electronics to the AI nations. You should immediately rush the
United Baltic Federation as the other two countries are relatively small and can be taken with a few divisions of infantry. You should also immediately rush
Belarus for its extra economy to create a bigger army to defend against the Russian invasion. You should create a few forts and artillery. At this point,
Russia should have taken out
Kazakhstan or
Ukraine and finished their justification on you. Use your artillery to smash their troops and then when they reach your cities, run and use Scorch tactics. You would definitely not survive, but at least you caused
Russia some trouble. In the bizarre scenario that Russia does white peace, you should focus on expansion to areas like
Poland,
Ukraine, or
Sweden to solidify your position on the European stage. You can also colonize
Gambia and
Trinidad and Tobago to form
Courland-Livonia for extra stability. At this point you should just go for the
European Union.
Trivia[]
- Only 63% of Latvia is Latvian. The largest minority in Latvia are Russians, with a 24.2% share of the Latvian population.
