Macedonia, or North Macedonia, is a Tier II nation in Europe on the Balkan Peninsula. It borders Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece.
Background[]
The area that is today North Macedonia has long been a crossroads for traders and conquerors traveling between Asia and Europe. The area was often inhabited by tribes and city-states. In 356 BC Philip II of Macedon united much of the area under one rule. His son, Alexander the Great, would create a huge empire encompassing much of Asia Minor, Egypt, and the Mediterranean. After the Greeks, the Roman Empire would control the area followed by its successor state, the Byzantine Empire. In the 15th century the Ottoman Empire took over and ruled until 1912.
After World War I, Macedonia became part of Yugoslavia. During World War II and the invasion of Yugoslavia, it was occupied by Bulgaria. Following the war, Macedonia rejoined Yugoslavia as it became a socialist state. Gaining independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, there were many disagreements with the country of Greece in the following years as Greece objected to North Macedonia's use of Hellenic (Ancient Greek) names and symbols. In 2019, it changed its name from (the Former Yugoslav Republic of) Macedonia to North Macedonia.
Economy and Manpower[]
Macedonia generates $127,872 income, and Macedonia has a 60,000 manpower cap and has a manpower gain of 344.
Terrain[]
Macedonia's terrain is completely hilly.
Cities[]
Macedonia has 7 cities, with its capital and largest city being Skopje.
Resources[]
Macedonia gains 1 unit of oil and 1 unit of copper every turn.
Threats[]
Macedonia is extremely vulnerable to invasion because it has only 7 cities, and the nation is needed for lots of formables. Therefore, it's no wonder that it's always invaded if Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania or Turkey are controlled by a player.
Strategy[]
Macedonia is a hard nation to play as because it doesn't earn much money and due to its small population, it doesn't earn much manpower either. Its most common enemies are usually Greece and Turkey. It's best to ally with Turkey since it's much more powerful than Greece. Italy can also be an enemy but it's not as common. For invading other countries, it's best to get a decent amount of population so you don't get left behind, you can go for Albania and Montenegro for the start, or you could go all in for Bulgaria since it has a bigger population than the 2 countries. If you aren't able to invade more Balkan countries, then go for Guinea and the small countries around it since they have good resources and a decent amount of population. You could also go for Tunisia and get tons of iron but it can be taken by Italy or other European/African colonizers, so it's best to go for the other suggestion. As a small country it's good to ally with stronger countries such as Turkey and Germany etc. Since they can offer aid and protection from other countries, it's good to keep a strong alliance with them to guarantee their aid and protection. Macedonia doesn't have an "easy" formable to form since the formables it can form are pretty hard to form with the exception of the Balkan Federation.
If you are expanding into balkans or wanting to defend yourself early game make sure to use specialised mountain doctrine because all of the balkan is mountains so that will greatly help you to attack or defend against enemies. It is also useful to use artillery with its range and firepower tech to knock down the health of the enemies before they engage with your troops.
Once you invade any country around Macedonia it is useful to make more factories with the cash that you got from the conquered nation or if you have already made your factories it is useful to develop or build up the infastructure of the cities that macedonia started with (mainland macedonia) for more income and more importantly manpower and resource output for Macedonia. As you invade more countries make sure to keep developing macedonias starting cities because it is cheap and it will help with income and manpower if you have researched the economy tech
Trivia[]
- The reason why Macedonia added "North" into its name in 2019 was because of beef with
Greece over a region it had named "Macedonia". Even after the name change, it still has some beef with its neighbors every single day.
