— Description of forming Marinid Dynasty |
The Marinid Dynasty is a formable of Morocco located in northwest Africa
.
Background[]
The Marinid Sultanate was an empire from the mid-13th to the 15th century which controlled present-day Morocco and, intermittently, other parts of North Africa (
Algeria and
Tunisia) and of southern
Spain around
Gibraltar. It was named after the Banu Marin (Arabic: بنو مرين), a Zenata Berber tribe. The sultanate was ruled by the Marinid dynasty, or Banu Abd al-Haqq, a family which led the tribe to power.
In 1244, after being at their service for several years, the Marinids overthrew the Almohads which had controlled Morocco. At the height of their power in the mid-14th century, during the reigns of Abu al-Hasan and his son Abu Inan, the Marinid dynasty briefly held sway over most of the Maghreb including large parts of modern-day Algeria and Tunisia. The Marinids supported the Emirate of Granada in al-Andalus in the 13th and 14th centuries; an attempt to gain a direct foothold on the European side of the Strait of Gibraltar was however defeated at the Battle of Río Salado in 1340 and finished after the Castilians took Algeciras from the Marinids in 1344, definitively expelling them from the Iberian Peninsula. Starting in the early 15th century the Wattasid dynasty, a related ruling house, competed with the Marinid dynasty for control of the state and became de facto rulers between 1420 and 1459 while officially acting as regents or viziers. In 1465 the last Marinid sultan, Abd al-Haqq II, was finally overthrown and killed by a revolt in Fez, which led to the establishment of direct Wattasid rule over most of Morocco. In contrast to their predecessors, the Marinids sponsored Maliki Sunnism as the official religion and made Fez their capital. Under their rule, Fez enjoyed a relative golden age. The Marinids also pioneered the construction of madrasas across the country which promoted the education of Maliki ulama, although Sufi sheikhs increasingly predominated in the countryside. The influence of sharifian families and the popular veneration of sharifian figures such as the Idrisids also progressively grew in this period, preparing the way for later dynasties like the Saadians and Alaouites. |
Resources[]
The Marinid Dynasty has the following resources:
Geography[]
This country is flat except for some hills and mountains in the north. The Marinid Dynasty is bordered by the following:
Strategies[]
Strategy 1: Declare war on Gibraltar, Algeria, then Tunisia. Use artillery to destroy Gibraltar's military and take them. Next, march troops into and through Algeria to take it and Tunisia at the same time, and then form the dynasty.
Strategy 2:
Declare war on Algeria and Tunisia before they get taken by Italy, make over 200K arid specialized men. Algeria and Tunisia will collapse quickly. Then take Gibraltar quickly, use a Destroyer or Artillery. Then, make the formable. You can also expand to West Africa and become stronger.
Threats[]
- Spain: Spain may try to take North Africa (and also Gibraltar) for potential resources and square cities.
- In rare cases, Spain may take Morocco and
Western Sahara (and sometimes Gibraltar) to form the
Spanish Empire.
- In rare cases, Spain may take Morocco and
France: France may try to take Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria for the
French Empire.
United Kingdom: The United Kingdom may try to take Gibraltar for its empire, although it is rare.
Italy: Italy may take Northern Africa for potential resources, and they also require
Libya for the
Italian Empire.
Turkey: In extremely rare cases, Turkey players may want to expand to the Atlantic Ocean, taking North Africa in its path. Many in the Rise of Nations community want to revamp the
Ottoman Empire, meaning the new Ottoman Empire may require Tunisia, Algeria, and possibly Morocco.
Egypt: Egypt would not really care about you in early game, however they are known to expand in North and Central Africa.
Nigeria: Nigeria is a large threat if they take the many nations to make the Gold Coast and form the
Sokoto Caliphate, then they could potentially expand into your lands.
Trivia[]
- Curiously, the relationship between the exclusive formables of the
Almohad Caliphate and the Marinid Dynasty is a one-way exclusive: As the Marinid Dynasty, you are unable to form the Almohad Caliphate, but as the Almohad Caliphate, you are able to form the Marinid Dynasty.
