Mauritania or officially the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is a Tier II nation located in Western Africa .

It borders Morocco, Senegal, Guinea, Mali and Algeria.

Background[]

Mauritania, officially the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is a country in northwest Africa. It is the eleventh largest sovereign state in Africa and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Western Sahara to the north and northwest, Algeria to the northeast, Mali to the east and southeast, and Senegal to the southwest.

Most of the country is covered by deserts located on the east, but the western part is covered by plains. There is only one major river in Mauritania, and that is Senegal, located on the Mauritan-Senegalese border. Some lakes are also present; a notable one is Lac de Mâl in the southwest, that never dries up regardless of the season. The country is very rich in resources like iron, gold, and oil.

The country derives its name from the ancient Berber kingdom of Mauretania, which existed from the 3rd century BCE into the 7th century CE in modern-day Morocco and West Algeria. Prior to the Islamization of the country by Arab conquests in the 8th century, Mauritania was inhabited by nomadic Berbers since the 3rd century. Mauritania became a French colony during the European Scramble for Africa. Approximately 90% of Mauritania's land is within the Sahara; consequently, the population is concentrated in the south, where precipitation is slightly higher. The capital and largest city is Nouakchott, located on the Atlantic coast, which is home to around one-third of the country's 4 million people. The country's official religion is Islam, with almost the entire population being Sunni Muslims. Arabic is the official language, with French also widely used due to its colonial history.

After becoming independent from France in 1960, Mauritania's independence has been characterized by recurrent coups and periods of military rule, the most recent of which was in 2008 and led by General Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. On April 16, 2009, Aziz resigned from the military to run for president in the July 19 July elections, which he won.

The main branches of the Mauritanian economy are farming, fishing, and mining. It's the 16th biggest producer of iron on the world. It also has sizeable deposits of gold and oil. However, it is considered poor.

Mauritania has been criticized for its human rights record, including for Mauritania's continued practice of slavery, despite officially criminalizing it.

Cities[]

Mauritania has 11 cities, with the most populous being the capital, Nouakchott, which has 742,144 population.

Threats[]

As Mauritania, your main threats are very limited. However, they are still present:

Strategy[]

Start by making 1 steel factory, motor factory, fertilizer and 1 electronic factory. This is because selling Electronics is no longer viable, and the only way to grow the economy is to rush consumers asap and sell those to AI. Invade Senegal and Gambia. Use The AI Luring technique to lure their troops and auto-capture cities (be careful though, otherwise you will suffer from heavy attrition).

I recommend you choose the socialism ideology for the manpower gain and switch your doctrine to massed attack for the precious 2x manpower increase. After switching your ideology, save up enough political power to go for the ‘Strengthen Central Authority’ policy because this will help you integrate Senegal faster, which is important because that will let you create tanks as you dont have any square cities of your own.

After making a few tank units and specializing them in the arid biome (left click on "start training"), take Mali and Burkina Faso, Now you can form The Ga'na Empire for some extra stability.

Then your goal should be to quickly annex Nigeria, which will increase your manpower pool and tax revenue by a lot. It also gives you lots of free room to expand into the Sahara and West African Coast without threats. Aircraft are the most important tool for this war, and with them you should be able to weaken the Nigerian army by a lot. You should have a lot of airports by now, so don't worry about them.

After you have hopefully annexed Nigeria, you are free to expand in any direction you want. Remember to pay attention to navy, as you will be vulnerable to naval deasants. Why don't you try to form the African Union?

Trivia[]

  • There is a theory that says tlálantida was located in modern-day Mauritania.
  • The only railway in Mauritania heads to the iron mines on the border with South Sahara. It goes across the Sahara desert.
  • Even though Mauritania produces almost 5k barrels of oil per day, a pretty high number when compared to other countries, it doesn't have even a single oil deposit in-game.
