This article is about Military Experience. You may be looking for Player Experience.

Military experience (or shortened to Military or Unit EXP) is a military mechanic used to strengthen or weaken attack and defense bonuses for military units. Every division has an experience bar, which is divided into 5 ranks: Clover, Regular, Trained, Seasoned, and Veteran, with ranks being promoted or demoted through manipulating the amount of experience from various sources such as combat, sieging cities, political leaders, military leaders, standard training, doctrines, formable modifiers, conscription laws, and more.

When units with conflicting experience merge, they collectively consolidate their experience into one, making the action irreversible.

Military Experience Ranks/Modifiers[]

The default military rank for newly recruited units (without external modifiers) is Regular, beginning at 75 military experience. However, home guard(s) begin with the Trained rank, starting with 125 experience.

Extra Modifiers

There are some external military mechanics that can passively modify or generate a randomized number (such as poltiical leaders and military leaders) that influence military experience.

Passive Modifiers[]

  • Standard Training: Standard Training is one of the main methods to boost experience during peace-time, as it also enhances the experience gained by the military leader commanding the group under the training division(s). On the other hand, while climate/advanced training, such as Arid, Jungle, Mountain (Mountainous, Semi-Mountainous, Hilly), and Winter (Mild Winter, Severe Winter, and Arctic), cannot boost the division's experience, they boost attack by 1.5x (+50%) when the ground unit is fighting on the training's correlated terrain or biome.
    • Standard training will only train up to 175 experience, which maximizes at the Seasoned rank.
  • Sieging Cities: Sieging cities, along with combat engagements, is one of the many methods capable of achieving the Veteran/Skull rank (250+ experience), as it surpasses the maximum threshold of 175 experience supported by regular military experience boosts.
  • Combat Engagements during War: Combat engagements is one of the many methods capable of achieving the Veteran/Skull rank (250+ experience), as it surpasses the maximum threshold of 175 experience supported by regular military experience boosts.
  • Reinforcements: Passively reduces EXP for the division that is actively healing, causing it to gradually lose ranks depending on the amount of reinforcements.

Randomized Modifiers[]

  • Political Leaders: The General of the Army, Admiral of the Fleet, Marshal of the Airforce, and the Chief of Staff are the only leaders that can upgrade experience.
  • Military Leaders: The accumulation of Military Leaders EXP is contingent upon the experience gained by the division under the command of the leader.
  • Frontline Leader Trait: This trait's military experience boost can augment if this trait is selected more than once.

Trivia[]

  • Military experience can influence the capture time for cities, where high experience fastens the capturing duration, while lower experience prolongs it.
  • While combat engagements and sieging cities are the most common ways of achieving Veteran infantry, it is possible to spawn infantry at this rank if you have substantial starting military experience. To do this, unlock the entirety of Specialization, recruit a General of the Army, recruit and upgrade a Chief of Staff to level two or three, and secure a formable modifier that increases infantry or ground starting experience. Be sure to avoid conscription laws above Volunteer, as they will significantly reduce your troop's starting experience.
  • Modifiers that solely affect attack/defense configurations, such as readiness, certain doctrines, biomes/terrain, entrenchment, flanking, fortifications, technology, and more, do not affect the change of military experience.
    • While military experience does enhance attack and defense performances for units, attack and defense are distinct features from military experience. Military experience provides either downgrades or upgrades to attack and defense, but other modifiers can also solely influence attack and defense without directly involving military experience.
  • Flanking can yield a higher military experience gain for an enemy division compared to a head-on attack. If you lose a significant number of your troops while the enemy suffers minimal losses during a flank, it could lead to severe consequences, as the enemy division will become significantly stronger in both attack and defense due to increased experience. This outcome can also work in your favor if you survive the flank while your enemy fails.
  • Before the 06/10/2024 Minor Update (June 10, 2024), it was extremely unlikely to spawn infantry with the Veteran rank, even with external military experience modifiers, such as Specialization, political leaders, and formable modifiers, unlike the current situation. Additionally, during the testing phase of the Military Doctrines Rework in the December 7, 2023 Update (December 7, 2023), it was possible to achieve Veteran/Skull troops using the same method.

Notes[]

  1. Veteran can also be called "Skull" (e.g. Skull troopers), as the name is derived from the rank's icon, displaying a skull.
