Mongolia is a landlocked Tier II nation located in East Asia . For its size, it is a relatively weak Asian country that is rich in natural resources. Due to Mongolia bordering the two massive and powerful nations of Russia and especially China (the latter almost always conquers Mongolia to form the Qing Dynasty), it makes it almost impossible to play as it early game without having one of your neighbors as an ally, or defending extremely well.

Background[]

Mongolia was inhabited by tribal peoples for thousands of years. It is most famous, however, for the powerful Mongol Empire that began in 1206 AD, when a single empire was formed by the powerful ruler Chinggis (also called Genghis) Khan. Genghis Khan mobilized a great army of Mongol warriors and, along with the rulers who came after him, conquered much of Asia and Russia. Genghis Khan's grandson was the famous Kublai Khan, wo conquered the Song Dynasty, and established the Yuan Dynasty. Kublai became famous in Europe due to the writings of Marco Polo.

The Mongol dynasty in China was overthrown in 1368. By 1691, Mongolia became under the control of Qing Dynasty. Outer Mongolia was a Chinese province until 1911, when it became a Russian protectorate. After the fall of the Russian Empire, The Republic of China occupied it & took control for a brief period.

In 1921, Mongolia gained its independence with help from the Soviet Union, who they would be subordinated to as a puppet. The government installed was communist, in line with their master. The country didn't become fully independent until 1991, when the Soviet Union collapsed.

Threats[]

Both China and Russia, two major superpowers, border you. China almost always annexes you swiftly to form the Qing Dynasty.

Russia probably won't take you. They don't need you for any formable, and you are essentially a worse version of Kazakhstan. The only reason they would take you is because of general expansionism.

Some other nation may try to take you for an Asian military base, but this is rare and a bad idea.

Base Statistics[]

Geography[]

Terrain[]

While almost all of Mongolia is Hilly, its two northern-most tiles are flat.

Biome[]

During December-January, the entire north experiences Mild Winter, except for the tile surrounding the city of Choybalsan, which has Severe Winter. In November and February, the Mild Winter areas revert to the normal biome, and Choybalsan's tile experiences Mild Winter, the latter of which is in the normal biome post-February and pre-November. Meanwhile, the country's only permanent biome, Arid, is in the south.

Cities[]

Mongolia has 20 cities with a total population of 1,976,071. Most of its cities don't have much population. Most of their populations are in the range from 5000 to 20000. Its capital city, Ulaanbaatar, holds most of the population and manpower pool of Mongolia.

Borders[]

Mongolia is entirely surrounded by Russia to the north and China to the south. This gives it a bad position, being surrounded by large powers that can be a great hinderance to expansion as Mongolia or end your playthrough entirely.

Strategy[]

(Strategy 1: Mongol Empire) (Note: This strategy is terrible, and most likely wont work. It is not descriptive or accurate. It is not recommended.)

First, make sure China and Russia will not immediately annex Mongolia while justifying on Kazakhstan. If Central Asia is taken by Russia, the player should convince Russia to release or cede them when they are finished. In the ideal case where Russia has not taken Central Asia and has no intentions to, the player should take Kazakhstan first because of its high resource output and abundance of cities. Use all the manpower to create 6 units of infantry. Taking Kazakhstan will take a while, but it will be worth it. After the player finishes, begin spamming electronic factories with Kazakhstan's resources and selling electronics. Set government and research spending to max. Make sure to also advance the political tree, specifically to increase the nation's base stability because the player will be doing lots of conquest. The rest of Central Asia will be simple. Build a few tanks and spam infantry. After this, annex the Korean peninsula if it hasn't already been taken by China or Japan. If China is not allied, the troops will have to endure the attrition. If Japan is AI, build lots of tanks and take it over as well. This will provide the country with a huge population and manpower boost. Annex Afghanistan and Pakistan if it hasn't already been taken by India for more coastal access. Send Mongolian troops through China or Pakistan and sail them to Southeast Asia. Again, spam infantry and tanks to take over Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar (Burma). In the case China has conquered them, take over Indonesia instead for another population boost. When the player has a large enough manpower pool and military, they need to annex China.

If China is AI, the player is in luck! Just mass produce land units to take over China. However, if China is a player, it depends. If China is decently good at the game, then invading China will be nearly impossible without an ally's help. If China is bad or just started the game, the player may have a chance. First, build and entrench artillery along the Chinese border in case they go on the offensive. The player may also station infantry and tanks in major cities. Spam tanks and develop their research tree. If the player runs out of money to support the military, build even more electronic factories and sell them to AI for some extra income. Depending on how much money the player makes, build at least 50 tanks, although 100 or more would be better. Split the tanks into divisions of 5-10 and entrench them. Trade for the resources to create aircraft parts and build up an air force. Create at least 5 attackers to deal with China's army. If China has an air force, build anti-air on top of major cities and important factories. Assuming China is a bad player, they will likely immediately rush all their troops at the Mongolian tanks as soon as the player declares war. Use the artillery, entrenched tanks, and attackers to wipe out their army. Then, they will probably begin spamming infantry. Simply wait for them to waste all their manpower away. When they stop, set all the tanks to auto-capture. Manually move tanks when they come close to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. When China is annexed, the rest of the Mongol Empire should be a piece of cake.

Threats[]

Obviously, China trying to form Qing Dynasty is your main threat. However the list below are smaller threats.

  • If China doesn't go for you early game, Russia can take you to be expansionist.
  • Japan might conquer you after taking China, or conquer you to serve as a stepping stone for an invasion of China.
  • Taiwan, after forming the Republic of China, might expand its borders past China, especially into Mongolia, for easy expansion.
  • Buryatia forms the Sacred Union of Shambhala. (RARE)

Trivia[]

  • Mongolia is the first and only nation to receive a city buff. (Excluding countries like the United States due to adding cities rather buffing a city)
  • Mongolia has a city called Mörön, which some players switch their capital to to make humorous faction names.
  • Mongolia has one of the hardest formables in the game, the Mongol Empire.
  • Mongolia is the least densely populated nation in the world.
