New Caledonia (French: Nouvelle-Calédonie) is a Tier I island nation in Oceania . It's located in the southwest Pacific, northeast of
Australia. As per island countries, it only has one city, and is extremely weak when it comes to its base statistics. It's rarely played, and if so, usually only for its XP multiplier of 2.5x.
Background[]
New Caledonia is an overseas department and administrative division of France in the southwest Pacific Ocean.[1] It was made a colony in 1853, and supported the Free French forces in the Second World War.[1] In recent times (2018, 2020, and 2021) referendums have been held on whether the people of the colony wanted independence or not. In the 2018 and 2020 referendums, 56.7%[2] and 53.4%[3] of people voted to stay with France, respectively. In the 2021 referendum, due to tensions including pro-independence forces boycotting the vote, the people voted overwhelmingly to stay with France (96%).[4]

New Caledonia is a special collectivity of France in the southwest Pacific Ocean, south of Vanuatu, about 1,210 km (750 mi) east of Australia and 17,000 km (11,000 mi) from Metropolitan France. The archipelago, part of the Melanesia subregion, includes the main island of Grande Terre, the Loyalty Islands, the Chesterfield Islands, the Belep archipelago, the Isle of Pines, and a few remote islets. The Chesterfield Islands are in the Coral Sea. French people, especially locals, call Grande Terre Le Caillou ("The Pebble"). New Caledonia has a land area of 18,576 km2 (7,172 sq mi) divided into three provinces. The North and South Provinces are on the New Caledonian mainland, while the Loyalty Islands Province is a series of islands off the mainland. Its population of 271,407 (October 2019 census) consists of a mix of the original inhabitants, Kanaks, who are the majority in the North Province and in the Loyalty Islands Province, and people of European descent (Caldoches and Metropolitan French), Polynesians (mostly Wallisians), and Southeast Asians, as well as a few people of Pied-Noir and North African descent, who are the majority in the rich South Province. The capital of the territory is Nouméa. |

Strategy[]
Before doing anything, make sure you secure diplomatic relations with other Oceanic nations. This usually won't be a problem as most people don't even play in Oceania and you're not needed for very many formables. Start trading with AI nations for oil and set your Taxation Laws to high while enacting Press Censorship to ensure your stability and economy don't collapse.
Justify a war against Fiji and
Tonga and have at least 60K troops and 1 destroyer ready for the invasion. Once ready, declare war on
Tonga and place a destroyer between its smaller city and its capital. Invade its smaller city and your destroyer will defeat the Tongan troops once they get in the water. After that you can take
Tonga's capital and end the war. Use the same tactics on
Fiji.
Taking nations like Norfolk Island will be more difficult as although they may only have 1 city, their entrenched troops will beat the crap out of yours. For this reason, it is recommended to invade nations with 2+ cities but you can still invade 1-city nations - it just takes longer. Simply use a destroyer to eradicate their troops and once the troops have all died, send yours in to take their capital.
While taking over other nations to build your maritime hegemony, make sure to manage your economy and policies. New Caledonia is a smaller nation and you only have so much money and resources to work with.
After you are confident you take on larger nations, justify a war against Papua New Guinea and
New Zealand. Train 80K+ troops for jungle specialization and declare war. Use the same tactics on them as you did for
Tonga however, make sure your troops don't suffer from attrition as you're going to have to capture some cities in the jungle. If you're feeling REALLY ambitious you can invade
Australia with same tactics except with a LOT more arid-specialized troops and tanks if you have enough money to afford them.
Congratulations, you have gone from a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific to the hegemon of Oceania !
Threats[]
- Larger nations such as
Australia, or
New Zealand may invade you to expand their influence in Oceania
although they don't need you to form anything.
- Any Malay nation trying to form
Alam Melayu.
Tonga invading you to form
Tongan Empire.
France invading you to form
French Empire.
Trivia[]
