New Zealand is a Tier III nation located in Oceania

Background[]

New Zealand comprises two main landmasses known as "Te Ika-a-Māui" (the North Island ) and "Te Waipounamu" (the South Island). The land area combined equates to 268,000 square kilometres (103,500 sq mi), making it around the same size as its parent country, the United Kingdom.

In 1280 a group of Polynesians called "Māori" began to settle onto the island, where they developed an distinct culture known as the "Maori". Nearly 400 years later in 1642, the Dutch explorer, Abel Tasman, was the first European to find the island. In 1840 the British Empire claimed the land as theirs following the Treaty of Waitangi. In 1841 the newly acquired British land was officially made into a colony of the British Empire.

In 1947 New Zealand became its own self-governing state gaining full independence from the British Empire following the end of World War II, however, the British monarch is still known as the head of state.

Geography[]

Terrain[]

New Zealand has generally Hilly terrain throughout the nation. This makes it kind of difficult for soldiers to move around, however it has the downside of making it easy for foreign soldiers to take a coastal city due to transporting units being slow.

Cities[]

New Zealand has 40 cities, most generally located on the Northern Island. The North Island contains the capital city of Wellington in the Southern region and the largest and most populous city "Auckland" in the Northern region. The largest city in the South Island is Christchurch located in the central region.

Strategy[]

New Zealand is a hard nation to play at the start of the game. The main reason it is so hard to play is due to Australia being near to them and the lack of nations to invade.

Conquer Oceania Strategy[]

1. Justify on Tonga and Fiji as those are the nearest islands. Then invade them with 30-40K troops. Then justify and conquer Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. They will almost always be AI so it will be very easy.

2. Once you have the Solomon Islands, it will be easier to invade Papua New Guinea. Use about 90K troops and use the ai luring to wipe out the home guard and then auto-capture it.

3. Next will be the nations with only one city meaning they will have entrenched troops. So use a frigate to weaken their home guard and then invade them with 60K-80K infantry for each one of them.

4. The only country left will be Australia which will be the hardest. It's a large country and you'll move slowly through the Arid biome and take attrition so max your infantry mobility and damage. If Australia is a player they will have tanks. Research anti-tank infantry and use your own tanks against them. Make a navy at your own ports to prevent a big invasion from Australia. You can also ally with Australia, but they might not accept.

5. Once you successfully conquer Australia, you can form the Oceanic Union.

Second Strategy[]

Make a navy to defend from an invasion from Australia or Indonesia. Make electronics factories or consumer goods so that you get a good income. Justify and invade the Solomon Islands and then Papua New Guinea. Now you can invade Malaysia, the Philippines or Timor-Leste and from there expand into the rest of South East Asia. Specialize your army in the Jungle Biome as it will make it easier to fight countries with dense jungles like Indonesia and Burma. Indonesia likely being a player, won't allow you to take all of these and you will have to fight them with your infantry and navy. March with about 150K infantry and about 1K tanks to Jakarta and then invade the rest of the country. From there, you can conquer India or Sri Lanka or invade China or go across the Pacific and establish colonies in the Americas although by late-game, this area is usually dominated by Brazil or the U.S.

How to Conquer[]

New Zealand is usually either invaded by Australia for the Australasian Federation, or the United Kingdom for the British Empire. For Australia, the best option is to simply defeat the 40K infantry in North Island by making a bigger and better trained army. Australia would need around 50K infantry to invade New Zealand. For the United Kingdom, this method can work too, but it is much more difficult to send reinforcements. Instead, what I like to do is capture the northernmost city on South Island and send a naval unit to defeat the advancing New Zealand troops. Given the size of New Zealand's military, the UK would need around 100K infantry and one frigate to achieve this.
