— Description of forming Pepper Coast |
The Pepper Coast was a formable in west Africa. It required Liberia and the Ivory Coast to form. It was removed from the game on the update of November 11, 2022, along with many other African formables.
This formable was originally suggested by coolfredbear2005.
Background[]
Pepper Coast, also known as the Grain Coast, was the name given by European traders to a coastal area of western Africa, between Cape Mesurado and Cape Palmas. It encloses the present republic of Liberia.
The Pepper Coast got its name from the availability in the region of the melegueta pepper, also known as the "grain of paradise", which in turn gave rise to an alternative name, the Grain Coast. The importance of the spice is shown by the designation of the area from the Saint John River (at present-day Buchanan) to Harper in Liberia as the "Grain Coast", in reference to the availability of grains of paradise. In some cases, this term covers a wider area incorporating Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast.
Economy and Manpower[]
The economy of the Pepper coast was pretty sizeable, with a gross income of $637,679 and a maximum manpower of 157,554. However, it's probably still not enough to invade countries like Nigeria to form Gold Coast yet, so you will have to do some research, development, and industrialisation.
Geography[]
The terrain of the Pepper Coast was really flat. This makes it very difficult to defend against people looking to colonize or maybe Nigeria trying to form Gold Coast for you. So you'd better have your allies ready.
The Pepper Coast has 35 cities with a total population of 7,877,689. The capital and the second largest city in the area was Monrovia, with a population of 1,041,000 people. The biggest city was Abidjan, with a population of 3,802,000 people.
Threats and Strategy[]
There isn't much of a strategy, just attack Cote d'Ivoire's troops before annexing the rest. However, Cote d'Ivoire, although very unlikely, can be a player, and since it was stronger than you, it can probably annex you.
Another threat was Nigeria trying to form the Gold Coast. This was likely going to happen. So you should have allies like Brazil, United States, or an African faction willing to help you, an alliance with Nigeria could be possible but likely wouldn't last long, so make sure you are more powerful than them.
Last but not least, the looming threat of colonization by France if they want to form the French Empire because they require Cote d'Ivoire. Liberia has tons of resources so other countries will try to annex and use the resources for themselves.
Invading Sierra Leone for resources was also optimal.
