The Pirate Republic is a formable located in North America . It can only be formed by the
Bahamas. You also earn the Pirate title by forming it.

The Pirate Republic, or Republic of Pirates, was a confederacy of pirates ran in modern-day Bahamas from 1706 to 1718. The island was taken under control by pirates after a fleet consisting of French and
Spanish ships attacked Nassau in 1703, causing many of the settlers and the people running the colony to abandon it, allowing pirates to swoop in and govern it themselves, establishing a republic ran by governors.
Pirate Thomas Barrow declared "that he is Governor of Providence and will make it a second Madagascar, and expects 5 or 600 men more from Jamaica sloops to join in the settling of Providence, and to make war on the French and Spaniards, but for the English, they don't intend to meddle with them, unless they are first attack'd by them." While originally the pirates had avoided attacking British ships, this restraint disappeared over time, and at their height, the pirates could command a small fleet of ships that could take on the frigates of the Royal Navy. The amount of havoc caused by the pirates led to an outcry for their destruction, and finally King George I appointed Woodes Rogers as the Governor of the Bahamas colony in an attempt to drive the pirates out of the islands, going to the republic with a fleet of 7 ships and offering royal pardons to those that turn themselves in. One of the people to accept this pardon was Benjamin Horingold, a very prominent figure on the island. He was commissioned by Rogers as a privateer to hunt down pirates that did not turn themselves in, with Horingold taking in 10 pirates as his prisoners and executing most of them, ending the Pirate Republic and re-establishing British control over the colony. |
Economy and Manpower[]
The Pirate Republic generates $197,831 income and has 60,000 manpower cap. The Pirate Republic gains 608 manpower daily. The country produces no natural resources.
Geography[]
Terrain[]
All of its land is flat, due to all cities being on separate islands.
Biome[]
The Pirate Republic only has the normal biome, for the same reason as above.
Cities[]
The Pirate Republic is made up of 12 cities, with each having their own island, its capital and most populous city being Nassau.
Strategy[]
Given the nature and location of the Pirate Republic, it requires a different playstyle focusing on navy, however this is difficult given the poor starting economy of the Pirate Republic. As playing as Bahamas, you are largely safe, as no power (except Cuba) would try to attack a tiny Caribbean country early game. First justify on
Bermuda, and then justify on nearby small Caribbean countries. Then invade Bermuda. After forming the Pirate Republic, the player should ally nearby countries such as
Brazil or the
United States to support you and supplement your own lack of power. Following this you should invade the rest of the Caribbean countries upon being able to afford it, and get a navy, which is an essential measure for defense as an island country, along with this getting a fort or artillery units can greatly increase your defensive ability. Having only 3 cities, there is a severe deficit for resources. To fix this invading nearby resource rich nations is essential as long as they are not taken by another player-controlled nation. Cuba is an excellent country to invade. The strategy of choice would be luring their troops and slowly annexing Cuba, which will give you a huge advantage and make annexing the Caribbean very easy.
Following the annexation of the Caribbean, you can expand into an empire, by doing the following: Annexing Panama in Central America will be useful as it allows you to use it as a political crowbar, as you can use it as a bargaining tool by using the Panama Canal. It is recommended to also attack Africa if it hasn't been colonized or dominated by other nations yet, as it is an excellent place to annex and add to your territory, with good places to start being the islands near the coast of West Africa and other small countries such as
Liberia or
Equatorial Guinea, so over time you will start ramping up your military and annex larger countries until you start reaching critical mass.
Threats[]
- Though unlikely to happen,
Bermuda itself can be a threat of your formation, as they can make artillery, submarines, or build forts. Its home guard alone can pose a serious threat, as it can defeat small units of troop transport ships.
Cuba can get you at the start of the game for extra money.
- The
United Kingdom trying to form
British Empire and conquering nations in the Caribbean or conquering Bermuda. This threat is only relevant in the mid or late game, as you will likely form before the British even reach the region, let alone the fact that the empire is hard to form.
Conclusion[]
Playing as the Pirate Republic takes patience and time to get stronger, as it starts off with low manpower and a bad economy, however it is easy to get it up to shape.
