We have taken back our colonies! Long live the Empire!

Description of forming Portuguese Empire

The Portuguese Empire is a formable of Portugal encompassing territories within 4 continents, thus making it one of the largest colonial empires both historically and in-game. Its a difficult formable, requiring a small nation that quickly gets taken out by Spain to take the massive nation of Brazil, along with many other small colonies.

The Portuguese Empire or the Portuguese Colonial Empire, was composed of the overseas colonies and territories governed by Portugal. One of the longest-lived empires in world history, it existed for almost six centuries, from the capture of Ceuta in 1415, to the handover of Portuguese Macau to the People's Republic of China in 1999. The empire began in the 15th century, and from the early 16th century it stretched across the globe, with bases in North America , South America , Africa , and various regions of Asia and Oceania .

Cities[]

The empire contains 519 cities with 28 of them being square cities. Most of the cities come from Brazil.

Resources[]

The Portuguese Empire produces the following natural resources:

Resources of Portuguese Empire
Aluminum +5.54
Copper +7.72
Diamond +6.65
Gold +3.53
Iron +10.3
Oil +33.38
Phosphate +3.32
Titanium +11.15
Tungsten +2.21

Geography[]

Terrain[]

The Portuguese Empire is mostly flat except in South America , where it is Hilly and Mountainous.

Biome[]

It has Jungle in some Parts like Timor-Leste and Macau, with Brazil being almost all consisting of Jungle.

Manpower[]

The Portuguese Empire has a manpower capacity of 2,987,768.

Strategy[]

The Portuguese Empire is a difficult formable, it requires a lot of skill and cunning but if you have the colonial spirit you can reunite the great empire under its old banner.

Objective 1: Dealing with Spain. With a much larger economy, manpower pool, and population Spain will be a massive threat to forming the Portuguese Empire. Spain will most likely want to take you to form the Iberian Union. The good news is that you have a few options for dealing with this imminent threat.

If Spain is AI, you may be at a crossroads deciding whether or not an invasion of Spain is a good idea. On the one hand Spain does hold a massive amount of wealth in its most populous cities, not to mention the stability boost to go along with forming the Iberian Union. The main problem is that if Spain suddenly becomes a player during your invasion, your military could easily be overwhelmed and you could be defeated.

If you decide that it is worth invading Spain, ally strong European nations such as France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Start building electronics factories and sell them to AI nations to build up your military for your invasion of Spain. Producing your own motor parts and steel might prove to expensive for your small economy, so buy motor parts and steel off of any country that is selling them. After that, buy oil from any AI nation that has a sufficient amount. Make around 2k tanks and move them to the border of Spain. Train these tanks as well as your home guard.

Once you have successfully justified, and Spain is still AI, you can begin your invasion. Send your home-guard to a border city and capture it. While your troops are capturing the city form a line with your tanks along the Spanish border. Use the AI luring tactic with your trained home-guard to destroy Spain's home-guard. Put your home-guard and tanks on auto-capture and let your forces capture the entire country. Once Spain collapses, you can send peace terms of annexing all cities occupied. Now you can form the Iberian Union.

Spain becomes a Player[]

If Spain becomes a player during your invasion, your best bet is to add your allies of France and Italy to the war and promise them a great reward for helping with the annexation, this could include the state treasury or state resources. With the help of your allies, you should be able to annex Spain and begin forming the Portuguese Empire!

Portuguese-Spanish Invasion is deemed too risky.

Even though that Spain is AI the risk of an invasion is deemed too great and should be avoided at all costs. Continue the strategy the same from here on out.

Spain is a player[]

In this scenario, it is imperative that you gain an ally in the form of Spain, this will ensure your security throughout practically the entirety of the game as you are extremely isolated in Europe and the only way a country could get to you via a ground invasion is through Spain. But Spain might not see you as an ally worth having and might see you better as a department under their banner.

Spain is rejecting or ignoring your requests

Now you must think quickly as your margin of error is slim and you have to be ready for anything. If Spain is refusing you as an ally you are most likely their first target for their invasion, and what you once thought to be your greatest strength, your isolation from the rest of Europe, might turn out to be your very own demise. Attempt to make as many allies as possible, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, you could even go as far as Turkey and Egypt. You must ensure that you have allies to protect yourself.

Address the possibility of invasion to your allies and explain that they can have all of Spanish territory if they choose to help your cause, this might entice Spain to ease tensions and create an alliance, or encourage your allies to help your fight even more. If Spain decides to ally, fantastic! But if they don't you must prepare for war.

Spanish-Portuguese Invasion preparation

Buy motor parts and steel off of countries that will sell and train your troops before the invasion, line your tanks along the border with Spain, you may also use the assistance of artilleries to support your tanks and infantry. To gain an upper-hand in the naval department create destroyers and place them in the waters around Spain. Train all of your divisions as much as you can before the invasion

Spanish Declaration of War!

Once Spain has declared war your allies will be called in, take a defensive position and use your artilleries and tanks to destroy incoming attacks. use your destroyers to weaken Spanish forces as they are recruited. Tell France to invade from the north and Italy to invade from the east. Attempt to make the Spanish forces spread themselves to thin and while that is happening order your tanks on auto-capture to invade Spain. You and your allies should close in on Madrid, and bombard it until it is captured by you or one of your allies. Send peace terms and let our allies annex their occupied portions first before sending your own. Once completed now you can set your eyes to the future of your colonial expansion.

Objective 2: Industrialization and Colonialization of Africa: Now that you have either secured and ally in Spain or have secured territory in Spain, you are stronger and ready to take on Africa. Begin to develop your own steel and motor parts factories and develop you cities to expand your economy. You now want to ally these countries to ensure your own safety in expansion efforts: the United States, Nigeria, South Africa, India, Indonesia, China, and Japan. These are large countries near nations needed for your empire and they will all most likely ally you as they won't see you as any threat. You should also choose which ideology to go down, Fascism is recommended to decrease justification time and increase stability on war offenses.

Justify on Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau, these countries will most likely remain independent so you can go and annex them. Once your justification is over you can attack Cabo Verde and Guinea Bissau, now justify on Sao Tome and Principe and Angola. Once you have captured the two countries you can continue onto Sao Tome and Principe.

Once your first couple of colonies are fully integrated you can begin to develop them to stimulate your economy. Justify on Angola and Cameroon. It isn't needed for your formable but it will be helpful to your cause as it will allow you to have a base of operations in Africa without ruffling too many feathers. It is somewhat likely that if Nigeria is a player Cameroon will be taken to form Sokoto Caliphate, and if that is the case: the Republic of Congo is a reasonable substitute. When your justification on Angola is done you should justify on Mozambique and sail around South Africa to the east coast. Justify on the Maldives and Sri Lanka, but India might have already taken Sri Lanka for the purposes of expansion, be ready to barter for land in time if that is the case.

To take Angola you should use 600-1.4k tanks, sail them to a costal city and declare war, the home-guard will be lured to the city and your tanks will be able to easily destroy their home-guard once that is done, split your tanks up onto auto-capture. You should bring at least 600 tanks to the capital to take it easily. Once Angola has collapsed, send peace terms and let your troops regroup before sailing them around South Africa to Mozambique.

Once the Maldives has been justified on, you should justify on some decently large African countries to grow your economy, a good start might be the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Morocco, or Mali. Justify on any one of them while Sri Lanka is finishing being justified on. Mozambique isn't needed for the South African Union, but it is usually one of the first targets for them after they form. It is somewhat likely that by the time you reach Mozambique, it might already be under South African rule. You have a few options if that is the case.

The Diplomatic Solution

Offer to buy Mozambique for as much money as you can afford to spend, but it is encouraged to stay above 2 billion, which will probably be enough to convince the South African Union to sell the lands. You can also explain in private chat that you are planning on forming the Portuguese Empire. Most players will probably sell the land, but if even after you throw out everything you got and they still deny your requests you can go for the next solution.

The Militarist Solution

This option involves surrounding the South African Union as much as you can to gain an upper hand on them so you can invade them and get Mozambique. Justify on Zambia and Tanzania after you have finished justifying on Sri Lanka. If you have invaded the Democratic Republic of the Congo you will have lands bordering these countries. You should invade these countries through blitzkrieg to annex the countries before South African Union can even have a chance of reacting. These countries are also rich in natural resources, deposits of Chromium, Aluminum, and tungsten should be mined to get the most out of these new lands.

(At this point you should be invading the Maldives and Sri Lanka, and justify on Timor-Leste and Macau)

You should justify on Tanzania and Uganda to gain more natural resources and million population cities to stimulate your economy and military. Once you have a large collection of these countries you should recruit a large sum of tanks and train them as much as you can and place them along the border with the South African Union, you should also back your tanks up with artilleries. With the resources you have you are able to create aircraft factories to help with your war. Justify on the South African Union and wait out the timer. (You should be developing your tanks through technology to help greatly with your army). Because you surround South African Union, their allies will have a hard time getting to them.

When the justification is up immediately, without a moment to lose, declare war and direct your tanks south ward toward their core cities. You can set your tanks on auto-capture. Your artillery will severely damage the South African Union's forces making your invasion relatively simple. Once you have captured all cities you can send peace terms to annex all cities, along with taking the state treasury and demanding war reparations.

Objective 3: Dominance over Asia;

Basically take the few micro nations you need left. If another situation like the South Africa one stated above, use the methods stated. If you succeed, now you need to get Brazil, French Guiana and Uruguay (that in most of the cases will be part of Brazil)

Objective 4: South America Part

Start getting French Guiana (200 tanks and AI Luring strategy). Now you need to get Brazil and Uruguay. If Brazil broke into several releasables, you only need to get them (1k tanks for each) plus Uruguay and then you formed THE PORTUGUESE EMPIRE! However, if Brazil is still a very strong country and if its a player (if it’s not a player do the steps below but with less tanks, artillery and without bombers) you can do this: 1. Make lots of artillery, tanks, bombers and make a navy. Make sure they are all with Jungle Specialization. Start bombing core cities and destroying Brazil’s army with your navy. Capital Snipe them and probably they will start breaking into several releasables. If they try to get your capital, you can use some infantry fully entrenched or tanks, and if they are trying to get their land back, use your artillery. After this, its going to be very easy to get their remaining territory. The player usually rage quit after you get part of their land + their capital. After this, get Uruguay if they didn’t have it and get their releasables if they declared independence. After this, you can finally say VIVA O IMPÉRIO PORTUGUÊS!

Threats[]

Here are all of the threats listed.

Major Threats[]

  • The main and biggest threat is Spain as they will 100% take you to form the Iberian Union. (That is unless you convince them not to invade you which will probably not work.)
  • Brazil is the next threat, Brazil is NEVER AI in public servers and are automatically placed 4th on world rankings, they will most probably take nations in Africa and might even expand to Europe . Brazil will not be a threat if they have all their releasables released.
  • South Africa is a big threat too, they will surely annex Mozambique and Angola after they've formed the South African Union. Like Brazil, South Africa is also NEVER AI as it is one of the easiest countries to play as.
  • China will always take Macau to expand.
  • India will surely take Sri Lanka to expand.
  • Indonesia can easily take Timor-Leste as it is weak and is only 1 city.
  • The United States will need you to establish a base in Europe.
  • Any European nation like France will try to take you for expanding.

Minor Threats[]

Overall, the Portuguese Empire is a hard formable and very uncommon in public servers, as even Portugal is uncommon to see due to how in early games it is easily occupied by Spain.
