— Description of forming Republic of Cuyo |
The Republic of Cuyo is a releasable formable for Mendoza, in South America
. It requires 3 cities from
Argentina.
Background[]
Cuyo is the wine-producing, mountainous region of central-west Argentina. Historically it comprised the provinces of San Juan, San Luis and
Mendoza. The modern New Cuyo includes both Cuyo proper and the province of La Rioja. New Cuyo is a political and economic macroregion, but culturally La Rioja is part of the North-West rather than of Cuyo.
The first journalistic experiences of the idea of a Republic of Cuyo was at the beginning of anarchy (1820-1830). The national political instability as a result of the fall of the Directory in Buenos Aires led to San Juan declaring itself autonomous in February 1820, a position followed by San Luis. The Governorate of Cuyo was then dismembered, and while San Martín was setting up his expedition to Peru in Chile, the Chilean brothers Luis and José Miguel Carrera acted violently in the country, trying to set up a Chilean government in exile, against the efforts of the Liberator and his friend O'Higgins. The tragic struggle ends with the execution of both in Mendoza. While Mendoza's governments were trying to succeed each other, there was an attempt to constitute the Republic of Cuyo, followed by the signing of a treaty in Mendoza, San Juan and San Luis to unite the Cuyo peoples while maintaining the autonomy of each province.
