— Description of forming Roman Empire |
The Roman Empire is a formable that can be formed by Italy. Due to its large size of the empire, it spans from countries around the Mediterranean, all of Northern Africa, Western Europe, and parts of Asia.
The player is required to brawl against France and
Spain, as well as many other stronger nations (the
United Kingdom,
Egypt, and
Turkey), as well as racing for territory with powerful competitors such as
Germany, making it rare to find in a public server. Forming the empire awards the Imperator Title as well as the Roman Empire skin.
Background[]
Roman Empire was the post-Republican period of ancient Rome. As a polity it included large territorial holdings around the Mediterranean Sea in Europe A period of unrest and civil wars in the 1st century BC marked the transition of Rome from a republic to an empire. This period encompassed the career of Julius Caesar, who eventually took full power over Rome as its dictator. After his assassination in 44 BCE, the triumvirate of Mark Antony, Lepidus, and Octavian, Caesar's nephew, ruled. It was not long before Octavian went to war against Antony in northern Africa, and after his victory at Actium (31 BCE) he was crowned Rome's first emperor, Augustus. His reign, from 27 BCE to 14 CE, was distinguished by stability and peace. His reign also started a 200-year period known as Pax Romana, or the Roman Peace. It was during the rule of Tiberius (14–37) that Jesus Christ was crucified. Thereafter, Christians were tolerated at best—but often tortured or killed—until the reign of Constantine I (312–337). In 313 an edict of toleration for all religions was issued, and from about 320 Christianity was favored by the Roman state rather than persecuted by it. But the empire was dying. The last of Constantine's line, Theodosius I (379–395), was the last emperor to rule over a unified Roman Empire. The Western Empire, suffering from repeated invasions and the flight of the peasants into the cities, had grown weak compared with the East, where spices and other exports virtually guaranteed wealth and stability. When Theodosius died, in 395, Rome split into Eastern and Western empires. The West was severely shaken in 410, when the city of Rome was sacked by the Visigoths, a wandering nation of Germanic peoples from the northeast. The fall of Rome was completed in 476, when the German chieftain Odoacer deposed the last Roman emperor of the West, Romulus Augustulus. The East, always richer and stronger, continued as the Byzantine Empire through the European Middle Ages. The collapse of the Roman Empire led to the start of the Dark Ages, which led to population decline by barbarian attacks and a decline in trade. The Roman collapse also led to areas being very unprotected which further led to former Roman territories being conquered by Islamic caliphates, most famously, the |

Threats[]
Luck and skill are the main elements used to form the empire, as there are various countries that are powerful, and needs to be conquered for forming.
- The primary threat would be
France, who may invade
Italy during the start of the game.
Spain is one of the required nations for you to form and while weaker can still beat you if you neglect your navy.
Russia would had probably have taken the Caucasus states by the time you get to them, for their respective formable,
Russian Empire and
Soviet Union, upon arriving in the Middle East. If this happened then it would be wise to negotiate for the Caucasus, as Russia will likely have similar population to you however will likely have more resources and is hard to invade due to the mountains, arctic and its sheer size.
Germany often takes
Austria,
Switzerland, or
Belgium early on. Meaning you would either need to negotiate for those lands or to fight a war with a country that will likely still be stronger then you.
- If
Switzerland is a player then they can build moutain fortifications with artillery and anti air to fend off any attacks. And once you wasted enough manpower or money counter attack if you don't play your cards right.
- Other threats that are seemingly powerful, include
Turkey,
Egypt,
Algeria,
Iran, and the
United Kingdom for various reasons.
Strategy[]
First Strategy[]
First, you need to ally France, UK, Germany and Spain so that you sure that you will be safe. then justify and annex Switzerland, San Marino and Monaco.
Next, you can go to the Balkan Peninsula and annex Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. If you can, you can ask Germany for Austria (or you can annex them when it becomes AI). You can now invade all the Balkan countries and Romania. Right now you can land on Africa by annexing Tunisia.
If Turkey is an AI, you can invade them. If they're not, build tanks and ships to fight with them. After taking Turkey, the road to the Arabia is very big. Right now Tunisia should be collapsed. Annex Libya and Algeria. Next is Morocco. If Spain annexed it, you can declare war on them too (Only if they are AI).
Right now you should capture North Arabia and then annex Egypt with 2 armies. This will make Egypt collapses faster. Right now you have a big land and armies. Right now set 2 armies next to France. One from your mainland and one from Iberia. Declare war on them and annex them. You can send the African armies to there too. If they are player, build ships to destroy their ships. After France, you should invade the UK. After that you can form Roman Empire! Remember to make tanks too!
Second Strategy[]
Forming the Roman Empire becomes substantially easier if you have a friend playing Russia. This strategy will focus on using Russia to help you fight powerful, player countries who may threaten you. As such, it works best if you and Russia have a form of instant communication, such as through a voice chat.
First, get a friend who also plays Rise of Nations, and have them play as Russia. As soon as the game starts, annex San Marino and Monaco. Build artillery and use it to help your Home Guard annex Switzerland, Austria, and Liechtenstein. While you are doing this, your Russian friend should be trying to form the Russian Empire.
After they form the Russian Empire, they should expand into Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Poland, and Germany to more easily support you. After you've annexed the Alpine nations, the real difficulty begins, depending on which countries are AI and which are not. At this point, you may have been threatened by France, Germany, or the UK.
If you can avoid war with them long enough for Russia to mobilize, then the insane manpower and resources of Russia can help you easily any big wars you find yourself in. Another thing to think about is that many players are going to be leaving the game very early on. If you can, ask them for their territory before they leave, it is likely they will give it to you.
Once you are clear of any threats, move into the Balkans, as well as into Libya to get a jump start on Africa. You should keep a large army posted in Libya at all times. Once you've conquered up to Turkey in the Balkans, you may face a big problem. If you've taken a long time to get to this point, which you very well may have, you might come across a united Middle East. This can be a big problem, as such a country will often includes Egypt, which you also need for later, and will have a massive military. This is where Russia will be most helpful.
By now they should have conquered Iran, so have them spam troops, planes, tanks, anything into the Middle East to help you completely overthrow it. You can use this infantry rush strategy against any large, player-controlled nation you go to war with; it is the main tenet of this strategy. After you have most of the Middle East, clean up any spots you missed or that Russia took, and continue on to the west.
You should try to sweep across north Africa before going into Europe , so conquer Tunisia if you haven't already, followed by Algeria and Morocco. If Spain/Iberian Union has conquered any of these territories, then you may try buying these territories from them. If they are an AI or they refuse to give up the territories, then you may have to consider employing a Russian Infantry rush.
