San Marino is a Tier I enclaved nation located in Southern Europe , being entirely surrounded by Italy. Pairing that with its low manpower capacity, low population, and generally terrible location, its extremely rarely seen being played by someone.

Background[]

San Marino, officially the Republic of San Marino, also known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, is a microstate in Southern Europe completely enclosed by Italy.

The country derives its name from Saint Marinus, a stonemason from the then Roman island of Rab, in modern-day Croatia. Born in AD 275, Marinus participated in the reconstruction of Rimini's city walls after their destruction by Liburnian pirates. Marinus then went on to found an independent monastic community on Monte Titano in AD 301; thus, San Marino lays claim to being the oldest extant sovereign state, as well as the oldest constitutional republic.

The country's economy is mainly based on finance, industry, services and tourism. It is one of the wealthiest countries in the world in GDP per capita, with a figure comparable to the most developed European regions. Its economy is considered highly stable. It has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, no national debt, and a budget surplus.

Geography[]

Terrain and Biome[]

San Marino is entirely flat and has no biome.

Cities[]

San Marino only has one city, that being San Marino itself, as its a city state. This city is also its capital, and makes up the entirety of its 29,579 population.

Borders[]

As stated earlier, San Marino only borders Italy, as it is an enclave of it.

Formables[]

San Marino has two formables, those being the Ostrogothic Kingdom and the European Union.

Strategy[]

If Italy isn't a player[]

  1. Build a recruitment center. You will need lots of manpower for defense. Also build fortifications incase Italy becomes a player.
  2. Place 100 artillery on your city. Create around 70k troops, then lure the Italian infantry, using AI luring, to come to your infantry and destroy them.
  3. Auto capture Italy, it will take time because of your lack of manpower, but after the conquest of Italy, you will instantly have access to much more resources and cities.
  • Note: don't forget to research economy and put good policies in place as it is very easy to run into deficit as a micronation!

If Italy is a player[]

  1. Build a recruitment center and electronics factory in your only city. Also build Fortifications.
  2. As fast as you can, take all of Switzerland and annex it. You now have control over cities with 1M+ population.
  3. Produce a few tank divisions and artillery, it can be a wise idea to move your capital to the Swiss city of Basel. It is mountainous in that region, and it is the farthest city from Italy. Place artillery near your capital.
  4. You have control over two airports, it can also be a wise idea to produce a bomber or two.
  • Note: I recommend that you research Tax collection one at the start of the game, then Improve weapon reliability, then support range 1.

Threats[]

Italy usually takes San Marino at the start for extra money so they can industrialize. Other countries don't have an interest for San Marino because of its small population and no resources. The only other threat would be a player trying to form the European Union.

Trivia[]

  • San Marino used to have a third formable known as the Kingdom of Lombards, but it was removed due to San Marino having no connections to the Kingdom of Lombards.
  • While the formable generally does not represent the actual organization, the European Union does not accept city states, which makes it interesting that San Marino can form it.
