Serbia is a Tier III nation located in Europe , specifically the Balkans.
Background[]
Serbia, officially the Republic of Serbia, is a landlocked country situated at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe in the southern Pannonian Plain and the central Balkans. It borders
Hungary to the north,
Romania to the northeast,
Bulgaria to the southeast,
Macedonia to the south,
Croatia and
Bosnia and Herzegovina to the west, aswell as
Montenegro and
Kosovo to the southwest. Serbia's real life population numbers approximately seven million. Its capital, Belgrade, ranks among the largest and oldest citiеs in southeastern Europe
.
Continuously inhabited since the Paleolithic Age, the territory of modern-day Serbia faced Slavic migrations to Southeastern Europe in the 6th century, establishing several regional states in the early Middle Ages at times recognized as tributaries to the Byzantine, Frankish and Hungarian kingdoms. The Serbian Kingdom obtained recognition by the Holy See and Constantinople in 1217, reaching its territorial apex in 1346 as the relatively short-lived Serbian Empire. By the mid-16th century, the Ottomans annexed the entirety of modern-day Serbia; their rule was at times interrupted by the Habsburg Empire, which began expanding towards Central Serbia from the end of the 17th century while maintaining a foothold in Vojvodina. In the early 19th century, the Serbian Revolution established the nation-state as the region's first constitutional monarchy, which subsequently expanded its territory. Following disastrous casualties in World War I, and the subsequent occupation of the former Habsburg crownland of Vojvodina (and other lands) by Serbia, the country co-founded Yugoslavia with other South Slavic nations, which would exist in various political formations until the Serbian aggresion of its western neighbors in the 1990s. During the breakup of Yugoslavia, Serbia formed a union with Montenegro, which was peacefully dissolved in 2006, restoring Serbia's independence as a sovereign state for the first time since 1918. In 2008, the parliament of the province of Kosovo unilaterally declared independence, with mixed responses from the international community. Serbia is one of the European countries with high numbers of registered national minorities. A unitary parliamentary constitutional republic, Serbia is a member of the UN, CoE, OSCE, PfP, BSEC, CEFTA, and is acceding to the WTO. Since 2014, the country has been negotiating its EU accession with the perspective of joining the European Union by 2025. Since 2007, Serbia formally adheres to the policy of military neutrality. The country provides social security, universal health care system, and a free primary and secondary education to its citizens. An upper-middle-income economy with a dominant service sector, the country ranks relatively high on the Human Development Index (63rd) and Social Progress Index (45th) as well as the Global Peace Index (50th). |

Geography[]
Terrain[]
Serbia is a country in the Balkans with mostly Hilly terrain. The only exception to this is Vojvodina, which is flat.
Biome[]
During December-January, Serbia experiences the Mild Winter biome. The rest of the year, the biome is normal.
Threats[]
Serbia is a tier II nation and it is surrounded by stronger powers. It's not recommended to play as Serbia unless you are experienced and know how to deal with your surrounding players. Here are the main threats:
- First up is
Romania, as
Romania is twice as strong and borders you.
Romania players try to take as much land for the Kingdom of Dacia formable some of the time.
- Next up is
Germany, as
Germany is a tier V nation, they might annex you (assuming they are trying to form the
European Union or expand southward).
- Then
Italy, as you can sometimes be invaded by
Italy, as
Italy is close by and is stronger than Serbia, Italian player might decide to end you. They usually take the Balkans first.
- Next is
Greece.
Greece has a stronger military and a stronger economy, and having you needed to form the
Balkan Federation they'll have to annex you. This can also prevent you from forming
Yugoslavia. This is rare, however, because
Greece is usually annexed by
Turkey.
- Your largest and most powerful threat is
Turkey.
Turkey is a powerful country, comparable to
Germany. You are needed by
Turkey to form the
Ottoman Empire, and you are an easy target as you are a weak nation.
Bosnia and Herzegovina (If skilled) can overpower you and then form the
Kingdom of Bosnia.
The number of threats to Serbia makes it not very popular, as there are stronger countries that are waiting to feast on your land and take it. This could be easily mitigated by allying them, or at least one of them, if not, ally another powerful country in Europe particularly
Russia, as
Russia is the strongest nation in Europe
. However, if all of this fails and one of your many threats in Europe
decides to take you out, you will swiftly be conquered.
Strategy[]
Build 2 electronics factories, 1 steel and 1 motor factory, buy the resources needed for them and disband your home guard. Justify on Bosnia and Herzegovina and
Macedonia (because
Greece will likely take it). Sell your
Electronics and make some tanks, then invade
Bosnia and Herzegovina and
Macedonia and justify on
Montenegro and
Croatia, then on
Slovenia and form
Yugoslavia.
If Greece is a Player[]
Greece would often want to form the
Byzantine Empire or the
Balkan Federation, and is of comparable size to you, that's why it's a threat. You should entrench some tanks in your southern-most city and build a fortification there, and also put some artillery there. Because there will be artillery, enemy will likely try to get rid of it as soon as possible, so he gets as least damage as possible. But as the fort gives you defense bonus, he will either give up, send all the army there or counter it with artillery too.
If Italy Is Expanding Into the Balkans[]
Italy is a much stronger country than you, and because they often go for Balkans, it can be a problem in your expansion. If you feel like they're definitely going to invade, you should conquer
Slovenia (don't care about
Croatia, just go through it) first. Now, they will either give up on expansion in Balkans, invade other countries in the Balkans, or invade you. If they decide to invade you, you should retreat back to your mainland and place a fort in your capital and entrench there, and preferably use artillery.
If Turkey Is Expanding Into the Balkans[]
The first targets are usually Bulgaria and
Greece, because usually they focus on
Syria too. The 2 electronics factories will not cut it, make more to have better income, 3M at least, able to afford 2k tanks and planes. Make a fort at Belgrade, because
Turkey is probably wanting to form the
Ottoman Empire.
Since Turkey players are not very good; they mostly just make a steel manufactory and a motor factory and usually they go red. Their ability is to spam, so this is where a plane comes in handy. If Turkey happens to transport his troops via sea, and you've got no submarine, use an attacker. It works VERY useful against transport ships. Even without the slightest upgrade, it will delete 4k troops per attacks. Pretty useful if he also uses tanks, because tanks are very powerful early game.
To acquire aircraft, buy in bulk (30) from others or manually produce by yourself.
If they spam heavily, then you will be able to cause many losses. They might quit and make your invasion of Turkey easier. Go Massed Attack and only use tanks, since they would not probably have anti-tank. Even better is sometimes Turkey players send 300k troops in one go. Aircraft and merged artillery will be able to handle them pretty quickly and if \they ever rush your fortified capital, with 2k tanks, his troops will have very high chance to die.
Then you strike back and take the homeland, with them left with no manpower due to the massive spam they did. They are finished without ally help.
After Forming Yugoslavia[]
If you want to continue, read the Yugoslavia page.
Trivia[]
- As neither a tile nor city existed for
Kosovo before it was added, the addition of the releasable granted three new Kosovar cities and a new tile to represent the entire releasable to Serbia.
- Kosovo has an Albanian Speaking Majority, and thus, Serbia and
Albania constantly argue over the rights to the nation.
