AI luring is an extremely common strategy that players in Rise of Nations use to exploit non-player controlled nations in the game. In short, AI Luring involves the player exploiting the behaviour of the AI to their own advantage, either to gain profit or simply to make the invasion of an AI controlled nation easier.

AI Abilities[]

During a war, AI controlled nations will send all of their forces to any city that has been taken from them, with a short delay inbetween. They will not target enemy troops, nor will they target their cities. AI nations can still however take cities during a war, usually if the city of the enemy is close to a city that the AI forces are taking back. They will only accept peace deals if over 90% of their territory has been lost, and they will not accept anything that includes the "Concede Terms" option in the peace negotiation UI.

Strategies[]

Baiting[]

To do this process, you need to capture a city near an enemy unit. This will lure the AI to recapture the city your units are stationed in. To prepare for the impending battle, entrench your units in the city. On the other hand, if you want to dwindle the enemy's numbers as much as possible beforehand, station artillery, frigates, destroyers, battleships, or aircraft carriers nearby. Also, you can have an attacker stalking the enemy unit(s) as they advance. If you don't have the time nor resources to do these methods, however, you can still win by having strength in numbers and/or if your units are more experienced than the enemy's. If you play your cards right, this method will be an effective way to annihilate enemy units while only suffering minimal losses.

Breaking Entrenchment[]

At default, home guards are stationed in the most populated city of a nation, or if a nation has many cities with high population, are stationed in multiple highly populated cities. The above method involves deliberately attracting the AI's attention by capturing an unprotected city that is within an 1,000-kilometer radius of the entrenched AI units. This action will cause AI to send all units within this radius to the captured city, thus breaking the entrenchment instantly, allowing the player to gain an advantage over the AI-controlled nation. It is also worth noting that any entrenched units you may have will help eliminate the AI nation’s units quickly.

Naval Interception[]

This method is utilized for bodies of water separating cities. Station a naval unit directly between the city you plan to capture and the enemy nation's home guard, as the AI will sail in a straight line route towards the captured city (it is best to place this naval unit halfway between the route, so the ensuing battle will not interfere with your ground units, whether being stationed in your newly conquered city or landing on the city the enemy departed from). Next, capture the city, and let the AI transport sail straight into your naval unit. Now, you are free to move on to conquer the rest of the nation with no resistance, or if you're invading a large nation with multiple islands, and thus has many more home guards to be taken care of, repeat this process again (e.g. Japan Flag Japan and Indonesia Flag Indonesia).

This method also works if there is a body of water separating an enemy's home guard from the city you captured, as the AI will head in a straight line towards your direction.

Scorched Earth[]

This method can be done by using a small force to capture a city. Before AI recaptures the city, it must be scorched to vastly reduce the power of a unit. Because scorching makes it more difficult to conquer the scorched town, it is recommended to use that method.

Artillery Sniping[]

As of 2025, Ai can now make troops and entrench and train them (when on rough terrain or biomes), or send them to recapture cites. Use Artillery, send it to an entrenched enemy unit and attack them using your distance, then send in infantry to either weaken or capture the city.

Dwindling Enemy Numbers From Behind the Border[]

This method works best near the border of you/an ally and your enemy nation. Plan what city you are going to capture, and station long ranged units such as artillery, frigates, destroyers, battleships, or aircraft carriers near the route to the city and/or near the city itself. Next, use a small force of at least about 10-20k troops to capture the city, and instantly retreat back into friendly territory. The enemy unit will automatically set forth to that city to recapture it. Assuming you didn't capture any other city, they should remain in their place. If the enemy is in range, they will continuously bombard the enemy until there are only 2 men in each unit, though you can wait until the enemy's unit(s) have only a total of around 1k men left. This amount and anything below will pose little threat to your units, and once you charge at and annihilate the enemy, you will only suffer around 1k losses.

You can also bombard the enemy with attackers, though build at least a few of them so your attackers can take turns with bombarding the enemy to counteract their lackluster endurance.

As this process is slow and tedious, it is only best to do this if you need to preserve manpower.
