The Suggestions Council is a dedicated group responsible for overseeing and managing the Suggestions Community, which focuses on proposing new features, changes, and updates to the game. Operating primarily through the Discord server, the community also allows members to suggest changes and improvements to the server itself.

The council exercises both moderation and executive responsibilities within the community, allowing it to approve ("consider") or dismiss ("reject") various types of suggestions, including game mechanics, formables, missions, dynamic flags, and Discord-related proposals submitted by community members.[1] Additionally, the council contributes to development projects and documentation, often centered on these same areas, with many of their contributions ultimately being implemented into the game. The council works closely with Hyperant, the game's sole developer, and the Rise of Nations staff team.

While members of the council are vital in creating content that may be added to the game, they are not formally recognized as developers. Instead, they form a bridge between the community and the development process.

Suggestions Community[]

Description[]

The Suggestions Community consists of numerous individuals dedicated to discussing and submitting personally or collaboratively crafted ideas, including in-game features, formables, missions, dynamic flags, and Discord changes. This community also serves as a platform for all members to share their suggestions or vote on those submitted by others.

Suggestions Community Channels

All channels in the Suggestions Community, located in the Official Discord.

While all verified members in the Discord can discuss about suggestions, full access to the category requires achieving the Corporal rank, while the Sergeant rank is necessary to submit suggestions. These ranks can be earned by chatting in the Discord server. Once an individual achieves the Corporal rank, they must go to the suggestions guide and react to the green checkmark, which grants access to the hidden suggestions channels.

At the top of the suggestions hierarchy is the Suggestions Council, tasked with overseeing and managing the suggestion process. They hold the authority to evaluate, approve, reject, and, if necessary, veto considered suggestions. While the staff team shares similar powers in the suggestions process, the Suggestions Council generally has more specialized experience and authority in this area. However, both remain subordinate to RoN Administrators and Hyperant.

Channels[]

The category is divided into eleven channels, with the channels listed in the image at the right and their purpose outlined in the table below.

Suggestions Channels
Channel Description and Purposes
Suggestions Guide
  • The Suggestions Guide is a comprehensive manual designed to provide essential information about the Suggestions Community. It covers established guidelines and regulations, lists commonly rejected suggestions, explains the required effort for specific types of suggestions, and indicates suggestion reactions.
  • The guide also provides direct access to view the entire suggestions category, which is visible only to individuals with the Corporal rank or higher.
  • As of this writing, the guide was written by RabbyDevs, an incumbent RON Administrator and the Head of Wiki.
Suggestions Announcements
  • Suggestions Announcements are where the Suggestions Council and RoN administration can announce stuff regarding the suggestions community, hold polls, and/or changes to suggestions overall.
Discord Suggestions
  • Discord Suggestions include suggestions for proposed Discord features, events, and emoticons (i.e., emojis and stickers).
  • Typically, Administrators+ only consider or reject these suggestions since they manage the Discord server, not the Suggestions Council.
Formable Suggestions
Dynamic Flags Suggestions
  • Dynamic Flags Suggestions include suggestions for proposed dynamic flags.
Game Suggestions
  • Game Suggestions include suggestions for proposed game mechanics.
  • Generally the most popular suggestion channel, excluding suggestion discussions.
Suggestions Discussions
  • Suggestions Discussions is where all discussions related to suggestions take place.
Suggestions Council
  • Suggestions Council is where the Suggestions Council holds their private conversations and discussions.
  • Since this channel is private, only Suggestion Council and Moderators+ can view this channel.
Suggestions VC
  • Suggestions VC is where community members come to discuss their suggestions vocally.

Official Projects[]

Official projects consist of collaborative Google documents actively developed by the Suggestions Council and approved by Hyperant. These projects aim to introduce substantial new proposals or significantly rework existing content in the game. Most of these projects focus on the "political" aspects of the game, such as formables, releasables, and dynamic flags, rather than delving into intricate game mechanics like the military, economy, or government systems. This focus likely stems from the Suggestions Council's specialization in managing the political elements of the game rather than having in-depth expertise in broader gameplay mechanics.

That said, not all projects are exclusively political. For instance, the ongoing Monuments Project can also be considered an in-depth game mechanic, though it maintains connections to political elements, particularly in its ties to nations.

List of Active Projects[]

Currently, there are only four projects actively being worked on: Monuments, Ideological Flags, Releasables, and Formables.

Contributors that have a building icon with a Palladian architecture next to their name indicates they are part of the Suggestions Council. Note that only their Roblox usernames are used, even if they have multiple nicknames in the community.

Council Members[]

Appointment Process[]

There are no fixed requirements or formal applications to join the Suggestions Council. Instead, members are appointed based on their consistent activity and contributions within the suggestions community. Prospective members are usually defined as individuals who have made many significant contributions to various suggestions and projects, some of which may have been considered or implemented into the game. They also regularly engage with other members of the suggestions community.

Attaining a position in the council is notably challenging and may require several months to over a year or two of consistent contributions to be considered for appointment. Since the selective system is mostly a meritocracy, only the most dedicated and qualified individuals are chosen to join the council.

Council Members[]

This section lists all seven members currently associated with the Suggestions Council. Note that only their Roblox usernames are used, even if they have multiple nicknames in the community.

Council members with usernames hyperlinked to their wiki profiles have an account on the Rise of Nations Wiki. If they hold a wiki role—such as Contributor, Content and/or Discussions Moderator, Administrator, or Bureaucrat—that role is also indicated alongside their name.

The Wiki–Suggestions Complex[]

The Wiki Suggestions Complex

A diagram that shows the Wiki–Suggestions Complex, an informal relationship between the Suggestions Community and the RoN Wiki.

The Suggestions Community maintains a close collaboration with the Rise of Nations Wiki to extend the reach of their real-time developments, such as considered formables, considered missions, and other considered suggestions approved by the Suggestions Council, beyond the Official Discord server to a broader audience. In return, the wiki benefits from increased viewership and a potential influx of editors due to the continuous stream of fresh content.
