Background[]

The Sultanate of Ifat was a medieval Sunni Muslim nation in the horn of Africa , led by the Walashama Dynasty. The nation ruled over areas now located in
Ethiopia,
Djibouti, and Somaliland. The sultanate first emerged when the later Sultan Umar Walashma carved out his own kingdom and conquered the Sultanate of Showa located in northern Harar. In 1320 a conflict between the Muslim leaders of the Sultanate of Ifat and the Christian monarch began. The conflict was precipitated by Al-Nasir Muhammad of
Egypt, who was persecuting Christian Copts and destroying Coptic churches.
The Ethiopian Emperor Amda Seyon I sent an envoy with a warning to the Mamluk ruler that if he did not stop the persecution of Christians in In 1376, Sultan Sa'ad ad-Din Abdul Muhammad, also called Sa'ad ad-Din II, succeeded his brother and came to power, who continued to attack the Abyssinian Christian army. He attacked regional chiefs such as at Zalan and Hadeya, who supported the Emperor. According to Mordechai Abir, Sa'ad ad-Din II raids against the Ethiopian empire were largely hit-and-run type, which hardened the resolve of the Christian ruler to end the Muslim rule in their east. In the early 15th century, the Ethiopian Emperor who was likely Dawit collected a large army to respond. He branded the Muslims of the surrounding area "enemies of the Lord", and invaded Ifat. After much war, Ifat's troops were defeated in 1403 on the Harar plateau. The empire subsequently collapsed. |
Economy and Manpower[]
The Sultanate of Ifat generates $546,107 in income and has a maximum manpower cap of 195,338. It gains 1,546 manpower every turn.
Strategies[]
The Blitzkrieg[]
Justify on Eritrea and
Yemen, then declare on them. You will need
Yemen for oil to fuel tanks, and for sqaure cities to build them, which is what you need to make next. Next, train your units for Arid conditions, and make sure to upgrade their mobility. While invading
Yemen, justify on
Ethiopia. Use your tanks to burn through
Ethiopia, note that the invasion will take a while, due to its terrain and biome. After annexing
Ethiopia, you can form. Note that the Ethiopian geography is harsh and rugged, and the only advantage your tanks have is that it can take cities faster and with less casualties than infantry.
Infantry Playthrough[]
Unlike the first strategy, this one does not utilize tanks, and if you don't want to wait for the unrest in Yemen to go down, not to mention their terrible performance in terrain with mountains or biomes. First, make three electronic factories, and wait for your manpower to fill up to max capacity. Sell these electronics to rich AI nations in order to build recruitment centers, and to develop your cities. During all of this, justify on
Eritrea and
Ethiopia. Once you reach your max manpower capacity, use all of it to make 80k infantry, and specialize them for the Arid biome. Use these units to AI Lure the Eritrean home guard, and to swiftly conquer the country. After this, it is recommended to wait for your units to completely heal. Next, declare war on
Ethiopia, and AI Lure their troops. Ironically. you can use
Ethiopia's Semi-Mountainous terrain to YOUR advantage, and will add a bonus to your entrenchment, defeating the home guard faster and with less casualties. Next, split your unit in half, and send one unit to deal with the eastern half, and the other with the western half. Avoid
Ethiopia's square cities, as they will take a lot more power to capture and will thus deal heavy casualties to your troops. Instead, strategically move and go after the smaller circle cities, and capture the square cities via force peacing. For the rest of the cities, it is recommended to not use auto capture, so you can strategically move your units and not siege any of the square cities. During this invasion, it is recommended to halt your troops if their numbers ever get below 20k and give them time to recover to at least 30k. After capturing all but three Ethiopian cities, you can force peace
Ethiopia, enabling you to form the Sultanate of Ifat.
For allies, make sure you ally Italy,
Egypt, and countries around you.
