things is the testing server for Rise of Nations, serving as a procedure for increased developer transparency by allowing community members to test upcoming game updates and report any general feedback to Hyperant.

The experience usually opens to the public a few days after the final previews are showcased for an upcoming game update, before the server re-closes after a certain amount of time. Testing sessions and update previews are announced in the Official Discord, both #announcements and #leaks channel, respectively (invite link).

Attempting to enter things while it is closed from the public will trigger an automatic kick from the server, with a system pop-up message stating "Classified" as part of the kick reason.

things was first opened on September 8, 2019 to test the Resource Update.
- Pre-Resource update, Lithium, Sulfur, and Nickel were resources. Lithium and Sulfur were later removed due to their scarcity, while Nickel was removed for unknown reasons.
The latest test took place was on May 19, 2025, available to test the technology revamp.
Upon joining "things", one will not be teleported into the game lobby unlike the traditional method, as it automatically redirect to the game match.
things offer free private servers during testing sessions. However, when testing sessions are not active, then accessibility to private servers remain locked.
