The Toungoo Dynasty, also known as the Taungoo Dynasty, was a ruling dynasty in Burma (present-day Myanmar) that existed from 1486 to 1752. It was one of the most powerful and significant dynasties in Burmese history.

The Taungoo Dynasty was founded by King Mingyinyo, who established the dynasty's capital in Taungoo (or Toungoo). However, it was under the reign of King Tabinshwehti (r. 1531-1550) and his successor, King Bayinnaung (r. 1551-1581), that the dynasty reached its peak. King Tabinshwehti initiated a series of military campaigns, successfully consolidating and expanding the kingdom's territories. He conquered several neighboring regions, including the Kingdom of Ava, the Shan states, and parts of Siam (now Thailand). Tabinshwehti's efforts laid the foundation for a unified and powerful Burmese state. King Bayinnaung continued the expansionist policies of his predecessor and launched military campaigns that extended Burmese influence over a vast area. His conquests reached as far as Manipur, Arakan (now Rakhine State), and parts of present-day Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. The Taungoo Dynasty under Bayinnaung became one of the largest and most expansive kingdoms in Southeast Asia. |
