The Basmachi movement was an uprising against Imperial Russian and Soviet rule in Central Asia by rebel groups inspired by Islamic beliefs. It has been called "probably the most important movement of opposition to Soviet rule in Central Asia". The inception of this movement can be traced back to the tumultuous period of anti-conscription dissent in 1916, a direct consequence of the Russian Empire’s mandate to conscript Muslims for military service during the global conflict known as World War I. Subsequent to the seismic shift in power dynamics post the October 1917 Revolution, the Bolsheviks usurped control in a multitude of regions within the Russian Empire, thereby instigating the commencement of the Russian Civil War.
Simultaneously, political factions within the Turkestani Muslim populace endeavored to establish an autonomous governance structure within the confines of Kokand, a city nestled within the Fergana Valley. In February of 1918, the Bolsheviks initiated a calculated onslaught on Kokand, culminating in a widespread massacre of an estimated 25,000 individuals. This act of violence served as a catalyst, galvanizing support for the Basmachi, who subsequently waged both guerrilla and conventional warfare, thereby gaining control over extensive portions of the Fergana Valley and Turkestan.
The trajectory of the movement oscillated during the early 1920s, but by 1923, the comprehensive campaigns orchestrated by the Red Army had inflicted a multitude of defeats on the Basmachis. After significant Red Army campaigns and concessions pertaining to economic and Islamic practices in the mid-1920s, both the military prowess and popular backing of the Basmachi experienced a decline. Albeit to a lesser degree, resistance to Russian dominion and Soviet leadership resurfaced in response to the collectivization campaigns in the pre-WWII era.
Geography[]
In the western half Turkestan is entirely flat and in the arid biome (typical for the region of central Asia ), in the eastern half and Iran, it has the normal biome and is severely Mountainous and Semi-Mountainous, making a good defending frontline against a potential
China invasion.
Economy and Manpower[]
Turkestan, due to its amazing resource reserves (listed below), has a base income of $1,056,589 and a manpower pool of312,322. This can open up possibilities for building most types of factories without buying too many resources, and if you know what you're doing, it's an interesting nation to play.
