Rise of Nations has been undergoing continuous development since its creation in late 2018. Most minor, moderate, and major updates are announced by Hyperant, the sole developer of the game, on the Official Discord Server or in the lobby, specifically in the logs located in the bottom right corner. However, certain smaller changes, such as minor bug fixes and patches, may not be fully announced and may be added covertly.

  • The vast majority of updates' names that are labeled as dates are always formatted in MM/DD/YY (Month/Day/Year).
  • The list does not contain changelogs before April 2019 due to the lack of information or it being lost entirely.

2025 Updates[]

Minor Update 04 / 17 / 2025[]

Changes[]

  • Testing mouse over text that may prompt you to hold space or in the case of mobile users toggle a button to reveal helpful information mostly aimed at the newer players. Limited at this time to the different types of powers such as Stability, Corruption, War Exhaustion, Political, Military, Research and Manpower pending feedback.
  • You can now roughly view how much manpower you are using to reinforce your units.
  • Tiles that have merely occupied cities will now be slightly brighter and more faded out than normal tiles.

Fixes[]

  • Sending request to the Internal Market are no longer inhibited by a timer.
  • Fixed cases where the Nuke mushroom cloud will remain if abandoning a country while they are still visible.

Minor Update 04 / 12 / 2025[]

Changes[]

  • The country selection menu now updates more reliably in real time, preventing cases where a country appears available but disappears upon selection.
  • Added more detail to the country selection menu, including information about ideologies, ongoing wars, puppet status, and faction membership.
  • You can now select a country by clicking on either its land or one of its cities.

Fixes[]

  • Mass releasing of countries should now cause significantly less lag.
  • Mobile users should be able to click on notifications more reliably.
  • Casualty mouseover text in the war menu once again displays a breakdown by country.
  • Potential fix for rare edge cases where "ghost" wars would persist, incorrectly keeping a country at war.

New Features[]

  • Right-clicking on a technology now toggles between disabling and auto-researching it. Clicking once will disable it, and clicking twice will enable auto-research.
  • The War Bonds event has been replaced with the War Bonds Law. Enacting this law will increase your tax income and decrease military upkeep but will significantly raise war exhaustion and decrease stability.

  • You can now create custom modifiers that will save when you save your map, and can be added to any country either for a limited time or indefinitely. Custom modifiers that are active in countries are also saved and loaded per map.

  • Using autocapture with nukes will now target the selected country's largest cities with them

Update 02 / 19 / 2025[]

New Features[]

  • Missions will now appear in the profile view and will be saved upon completion.
  • The formable/mission search now allows searching for countries with available formables/missions by prefacing the search with !.
  • Clicking on a formable flag in the formable list will now select all required cities for that formable.
  • Military leaders now have icons to better distinguish between different types.
  • Deputies of civilian leaders can now be promoted. This replaces a corrupt leader with a non-corrupt one at a reduced level, but only if the leader's rank is 3 or higher.

  • Unrest now determines how easily a city can be captured, scaling up to 3x faster capture times when fully maxed out.
  • Reduced how much the resistance modifier impacts city capture times.
  • Fortifications now also require 15 Steel to construct.
  • Fixed cases where bombing cities, via bombers or nukes, for extended periods of times can cause them to remain eternally scorched.
  • Several lengthy country names are now shortened in the chat.
  • Attackers should be a bit more effective against anti aircraft and artillery.

Doctrine Rebalancing[]

  • Each country now starts off with a free choice per branch of doctrines. For example, you can choose one doctrine within Aerial, Naval, and Land without paying military power, even if you choose two branches within two different categories, respectively.
  • Reduced Stalwart Defense's (Static Lines) war exhaustion decrease.
  • Increased Adaptability's (Specialization) Ground Starting Experience to 1.2x
  • Increased Specialization Biome/Terrain attack buffs from 1.35x to 2x
  • Increased Advanced Training's (Specialization) Infantry Starting Experience from 1.3x to 1.5x and Ground Starting Experience from 1.1x to 1.15x
  • Increased Armored Fist's (Manoeuvre Warfare) Tank Attack Against Infantry from 1.25x to 1.5x
  • Increased Steel Division's (Manoeuvre Warfare) Tank Attack from 1.2x to 1.35x
  • Downfall Initiative (Massed Attack) gains a further 0.7x to Infantry Manpower Cost.

Miscellaneous[]

  • Infrastructure now boosts building speed on that city by up to 2x when fully upgraded
  • When rejoining a country within the protection timer, no new country restrictions will be applied again
  • Removed city count restrictions on building fortifications

Minor Update 05 / 10 / 2024[]

  • Added new City Search interface to the lower right menu
  • Added basic technology icons.
  • Added focus on capital city button in the Diplomacy menu (click on the country's flag to function).
  • Target Allies' flags in the declare war menu should no longer run off the screen.
  • Added country disconnection protection: if at anything happens upon disconnection or abandoning a country, no will be able to join as that country for up to 90 seconds. However, if the the former country user joins another country, the timer is immediately negated.
  • Cost estimates for shipyards no longer apply to non-port cities.
  • Added Groot Nederland Plan mission to the Netherlands.

"Major" Update 03 / 31 / 2024[]

  • A fake preliminary concept of the long-awaited Espionage Update was released in the game. However, this was only part of an April Fools joke.
    • Since the update introduced no revolutionary changes to the game, it is considered a "minor" update, contrary to what Hyperant labeled as a "major" update, as it was purely a joke.

  • Added a new building, known as 'Infrastructure'.
    • Roads have been replaced with Infrastructure on a per-city level.
    • Infrastructure ranges in scale from 1 - 10 and will give the following effects at the highest level:
    • Infrastructure can boost ground movement speed, though it will take the average infrastructure among the cities within the mutual tile when determining the movement modifier.
      • Movement speed will be boosted by 2x if all cities in their mutual tile have the highest infrastructure.
    • Infrastructure is easily damaged however, losing levels on enemy occupation during wars and bombardment from bombers.
    • Infrastructure can be built on occupied cities during war.
  • Bombers will now decrease development tiers on a city if bombarded for long enough.
  • Added Development (City Tier) and Infrastructure map modes.
  • Airports now increase tax income.
  • Fortifications can be built on occupied cities during war, but they will require a higher construction cost compared to building one on the homeland.
  • Faction members can now privately communicate in the Roblox chat by typing '/t'.
    • The command is also the same command to talk in team chat in other Roblox games.

  • Added Non-aggression pacts which will allow you to create a temporary truce with a selected country. The length of the truce can run in 3, 6, or 12 month terms.
  • Releasing puppets will now cause them to inherit your country's ideology.
  • The lobby now contains a soundtrack; however, it is not the same as the former.

Update 12 / 07 / 2023[]

  • Reworked Military Doctrines:
    • Instead of singular choices for each military branch, there's now an expanded doctrines tree for them. Additionally, some doctrines are exclusive to each other.
    • Doctrines increased from 11 to 53 doctrine choices.
  • Added new UI:
    • Military Modifiers in the military menu will now show the total global attack, defense, and mobility for all unit categories.
    • Naval damage against aircraft now scales with distance. The further away the aircraft is from the ship, the less damage it will do.
  • Added Shipyards.
  • Added the Chief Judge as a political leader, which grants more base Stability, less Corruption gain, and less political power gain.
  • Added Dynamic Flags to Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
  • Fixed mobile not being able to set custom capitals in private servers.
  • Potential fix for units getting stuck after being at battle with a large number of individual units at once.

VIP Update 11 / 23 / 2023[]

  • Added the ability to create custom countries in VIP servers.
    • Note that at this time, this is an experimental feature and there may be bugs that might have remained unnoticed during developer testing.
    • Save/Load feature supports custom countries
    • Limitations at this time:
      • A custom country's cores are regular cores. For example, there is no way to set them as Releasable.

VIP Update 11/ 21 / 2023[]

  • Added the ability to change city populations using two modes:
    • Population SET will set ALL SELECTED cities to the designated population value. For example, if you select 2 cities with a combined population of 1,000,000 and you input 50,000, all the selected cities receive a population of 50,000. City A with 800,000 becomes 50,0000 and City B with 200,000 becomes 50,000.
    • Population CHANGE will change ALL SELECTED cities by the given percentage. For example, if you select 2 cities with a combined population of 1,000,000 and you input -50, the population of all the cities will change by -50% or half the population. City A with 800k becomes 400,000 and City B with 200,000 becomes 100,000.
  • Consequently, the save/load feature now supports city population.

VIP Update 11 / 19 / 2023[]

  • Added Experimental Map Save/Load feature for VIP server owners:
    • This is entirely experimentational and has not reached its final state as of this update, meaning it is subject to errors.
    • This only saves current city ownership, which means occupied cities are excluded from being saved. As a result, diplomatic status such as such as war and alliances, units, country information such as ideologies, resources, economy and more will not be saved at this time.
    • The feature was to introduce a saving system for open testing and as such, more features will be planned in the future.

  • Reworked the concept of Corruption:
    • Replaced the corruption chain of events with its own dedicated corruption mechanic which is less reliant on a random number generator for its outcome. Overall this system is less reliant on RNG and more forgiving than the previous system.
    • Events can now increase or decrease corruption, with higher levels of corruptions having increasing effects.
    • Political leaders can become corrupt over time, with this chance increasing the higher your own corruption becomes.
    • The Anti Corruption policy has been replaced with Anti Corruption Spending.
    • One political and two economic technologies, which are 'Encourage Meritocracy' (Political), 'Reduce Corruption' (Economic), and 'Financial Machine Learning' (Economic), can decrease corruption gain.
    • Added 5 new policies that can grow the rate of corruption while also providing some advantages in exchange.

Mines Update[]

On December 19th, 2022, the Mines Update would be released. This update would give back the mines icon over the city it is in. It reduced the price of mines from 20M to 17.5M, and gave diamonds a long-awaited use to the game by required 0.2 every 5 days to maintain the mine's efficiency. If this demand it not met, they will operate at reduced effectiveness. Changes not related to mines are as listed:

  • Added ability to select all cities that produce a certain type of resource in the resources part of the economy menu
  • Added mouseover text to Core flags on the city panel
  • (Though not mentioned in the list of changes, the Scorch FX was once again readded)

Transport Update[]

A minor update released on the 5th of September 2022, which added transport aircraft. It also added new formables named the Kingdom of Georgia, the Pacific States of America, the Polynesian Confederation, and the Promised Land of Zion. Also fixed was a bug in the war system, which if a participating victor nation did not send a peace treaty before the main victor nation, they would lose all the territory conquered by them in a war. Now, a participating victor nation in a war will keep their conquered territory after a peace treaty is sent by the main victor, unless a term that doesn't "Annex Cities" is sent. Soundtracks in the game broken by the Roblox Audio Update were removed, the distance text overlapping the terrain/biome text was fixed, and the old scorching effect was readded after being broken by a Roblox update. Said scorching FX would be once again removed shortly after.

Kosovo and Falklands Update[]

A minor update released on around the 29th of July 2022, which added Kosovo, a new releasable For Serbia and the Falkland Islands as a new starting nation.

2nd Releasable Update[]

A normal update released on June 21st, 2022, which had added 5 new releasables for the United States, 1 releasable for Canada and 2 for Mexico. These releasables were: California, Hawaii, Quebec, Cascadia, Baja California, Alaska, New England, and Yucatan.

Antarctic Update[]

A minor update released on around June 20, 2022, which added Antarctica and its colonies as a playable country.

Minor Formable Update[]

On June 13, 2022, three new formables were added. These were the Afsharid Dynasty, the Angevin Empire, and Goguryeo.

Unnamed Minor Update[]

A minor update that changed the flag of the Confederate States of America, decreased the damage of bombers, and changed the capital name of Kazakhstan from Astana to Nur-Sultan and the capital name of Ukraine from Kiev to Kyiv along with Lvov to Lviv.

2021 Updates[]

Population Growth Update[]

An update released on 11th of November 2021, which allowed cities to increase their population, which can be increased by integration and development.

Nuclear Update[]

This update released on 27th of August 2021 focused on nuclear bombs, and is not to be confused with an April Fools update that also added them, which was removed the following day. Two new resources; uranium and enriched uranium, two buildings; a uranium enricher and a silo, a new technology tree dedicated to researching nukes, and one military unit; the nuke itself, were also added, which were all related to nukes.

2020 Updates[]

Biome Update[]

An update released for the public on the 22nd of December 2020, adding most importantly in update: biomes and events, and mainly upgrading/revamping various stuff around Rise of Nations. This update brought the Russian Empire, German Empire, and a Russian WW2 skin pack for forming the Soviet Union, this update also saw the removal of the German Reich, the Trio Java, and the Filipino Empire.

Generals Update[]

A major update adding generals or military leaders came out on 31st July 2020. Except for military leaders, 37 formables were added, and an Earth texture was implemented, which looked much cleaner compared to the previous.

Lobby Update[]

An update that completely rearranged how the lobby look. It was added on the 13th of June 2020. The update rearranged a few GUI frames, added the current spinning globe seen in the lobby, and added an option to join a server by typing its ID.

Canal Update[]

A significant but not a major update which came out on 27 April 2020. It mainly revamped the canals to benefit their owners. It also added the flanking mechanic, a news ticker, and a custom leaderboard, replacing Roblox's default one.

Policy Update[]

A new important administration element appears - policies can change many aspects of your nation for the cost of political power spent constantly. The update was released on 14 February 2020.

2019 Updates[]

Technology Update[]

A very crucial update released on 24 December 2019 provides a complete revamp of technology trees. From the number of 19 technologies a tree has been significantly developed and a number of technologies being able to research increased to 162.

Skin Update[]

This update was published on 11 October 2019 adds skins, with a German WW2 and American WW2 pack.

Resource Update[]

An update provides several new natural and manufactured resources, mainly distributed in Kazakhstan and Russia. Only diamonds have no current usage, but the rest is required to produce more advanced military units, like tanks and aircraft. It was released on the 28th of September 2019.

Terrain Update[]

A game-changing update released on 1 June 2019 adds a new terrain types, which are Hilly, Semi-Mountainous, and Mountainous. These can drastically influence on land unit's velocity and give a huge advantage for an entrenched unit, meaning the difference between glorious victory or tragic defeat in a war.

Releasable Update[]

This update published on 25 May 2019 provides a new element known as a releasable. They can declare independence if its stability excessively drops, giving birth to new nations, or restoring the independence to others, depending on your nation's territory.

Oil Update[]

A very important resource, oil, has been added on 19 May 2019. Oil can be mined everywhere in the world and used for your tanks, navy, and air force. On 5/19/2019, the basic framework for resources has been added, with oil so far being the only resource available. Oil is required for the operation of tanks, ships, and aircraft. During an oil shortage, the capabilities of these vehicles will be severely limited.

Oil deposits are found roughly in their real-life counterparts (e.g., the Middle East). The extraction of resources provides a boost to the income of the city that contains it.

You can also sell and buy resources on a global market, functioning as a rudimentary trade system.

Aircraft Update[]

12 May 2019's update adds aircraft and airports. The aircraft added were attackers, fighters, and bombers. Attackers are offensive units attacking non-air divisions, while the fighter is for combating other planes in the sky. Bombers are for bombing cities, causing unrest, which leads to less taxes and less stability. If you bomb it for long enough, or if enough forces are used, the city will be scorched, rendering it basically entirely useless until it cools down.

Stability Update[]

5 May 2019's update adds a stability measurement depending on many factors, mainly war exhaustion, unrest and a control of the capital. From now, formables give 10 stability.

Naval Update[]

Late April 2019's update provides new types of naval units. Frigates, battleships, destroyers and aircraft carriers were all ships then available.
