Background[]
During 2019, the president of 
Cote d'Ivoire Alassane Ouattara called for the countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union to form a "real union" with a common market united by the use of the CFA franc, akin to the 
European Union, and also pursue further integration, likely indicating federalization.
