The Yaik Cossack Host was a historical administrative and military unit of the Cossacks, who were a group of predominantly East Slavic people who lived in the region of the southern Russian steppe. The Yaik Cossack Host was named after the Yaik River, which is now known as the Ural River, and was established in the early 17th century as a result of the expansion of the Russian Empire.

The Yaik Cossacks played an important role in the colonization and defense of the southern Russian frontier, particularly against the nomadic tribes of the region. They also participated in a number of military campaigns, including the Russo-Turkish War of 1735-1739 and the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century. In the late 19th century, the Yaik Cossack Host was merged with several other Cossack hosts to form the larger Cossack Host of the Ural region, which continued to exist until the Russian Revolution of 1917. Today, while the Cossack identity and culture persists in modern Russia, the Cossack hosts no longer have any official administrative or military functions. |
