— Description of forming Zion of America |
Zion of America is a large releasable formable for Deseret. It spans across both North America
and South America
, and partially in Oceania
due to
Hawaii, which makes it transcontinental. It requires all nations in North and South America.
Background[]
The concept of Zion of America originates from the early beliefs and aspirations of the Mormon movement during the 19th century. Emerging from the religious fervor of the Second Great Awakening, Mormonism, founded by Joseph Smith, envisioned a divinely guided society that would prepare for the Second Coming of Christ.
In the early 1830s, Smith declared Independence, Missouri, as the prophesied location for the "New Jerusalem" or Zion—a holy city where God's kingdom would be established on Earth. However, tensions between Mormon settlers and non-Mormon residents led to violent conflicts, forcing the Mormons to relocate multiple times.
After Joseph Smith's assassination in 1844, leadership passed to Brigham Young, who led the Mormons on a historic migration westward to the Great Basin. There, they sought to establish Deseret, a self-sufficient theocratic state spanning a vast portion of the western frontier. Despite their efforts, the U.S. government opposed their independent rule, leading to conflicts such as the Utah War (1857-1858). Over time, federal intervention and changing policies forced the Mormons to abandon their theocratic ambitions, eventually integrating into the U.S. political system.
The dream of Zion persisted in Mormon theology, influencing their communities, settlements, and religious doctrine. The vision of a Mormon-led nation in America remains a topic of historical discussion, reflecting the movement’s struggles, aspirations, and conflicts in the 19th century.
